Part 1: Defend the Train

Upon commencing the memory, we’ll be in control of a Gatling gun… And this entire mission will revolve around this gun – so get comfortable. We can fire it via the RT/R2 button and as it is automatic, we can hold down the trigger to sustain fire for a short period. Note the color of the gun’s barrels however – they will slowly turn red over time through constant use. If they get too red, they will overheat and you’ll have to mash the B/Circle button to use it again. It should also be noted that you can zoom in down the gun’s sights by hitting the LT/L2 button.

We’ll now need to defend the train against several waves of enemies who will appear in front and on the station platforms to the far left. Using the gun, we have to shoot the enemies as they appear. If you see the telltale targeting icons appear above a hostile’s head, use the crouch button to enter cover until their shot is finished. Stand up and return to shooting once they finish. Note that in most locations there are explosive crates, hanging barrels and other environmental The waves play out as follows:

  • The first wave features a group of three Blighters coming at you from the street directly opposite the starting location.
  • The second wave includes a pair of Blighters from directly in front and a third blighter on one of the train station platforms to the left.
  • The third wave consists of four Blighters with two appearing on each of the train platforms to the left.

Watch out for enemies on the station platforms (left) and the rooftops on the right (right).

  • The fourth wave is made up of three additional Blighters coming from the street and a pair of snipers - one on the rooftop just to the right of the street and the other on the roof of the train station.
  • The fifth wave has a sniper on the building to the right, a single Blighter from the street and one on both of the two platforms in the train station.
  • The Sixth wave consists of three Blighters.
Following the sixth wave, a number of enemies will appear along the wall to the right of the starting location and more will spawn in the train station and from the street. Accordingly, the train will begin moving. Simply stay in cover until you are out of range!

Part 2: Defend the Moving Train

During this next section of the memory, we’ll still be attached to the Gatling gun and will still need to defend the train. This time however, we’ll need to do so whilst moving! Of course, the bad guys have a train in this section as well so we’ll be mainly shooting at them as we go.

As you reach the opposing train, be sure to continue to take cover to avoid gunfire and make good use of the explosives that it has aboard – almost every carriage has explosives on it at some point that you can detonate with a well-placed bullet to clear out all or most of the enemies. It’s also a good idea to decouple carriages as you move up the train. These are marked with red objective markers and shooting five of these will net you an optional objective.

There are still a few things you’ll want to do to make this section a little less painful – firstly you should keep the turret pretty much targeted at the extreme right unless you are shooting someone or decoupling a car. This will enable you to see the enemies early enough to shoot them before they have a chance to shoot at you. On commuter carriages enemies will appear both in the windows and on the roof and whilst it sounds obvious, it’s important to try not to forget to deal with both (it’s easy to get carried away and focus only at eye level!).

Shoot the Blighters as you move up the train (left) and be sure to destroy the couplings between carriages (right) for the optional objective.

Eventually our train will come to a brief stop. On a road directly opposite you’ll see a large number of enemies lining up shots at you. Use the explosives at either end of the row on the street to deal with them quickly before focusing on the snipers on ledges above. Killing these enemies will trigger a similar number of Blighter reinforcements – shoot them before they can get settled in and use the hanging crates if you see the opportunity to cause some carnage. Once all of the enemies have been defeated, the train will start moving again.

Part 3: Destroy the Train

The last part of the memory has us moving up onto the Blighter train on the next track once again. This time our goal is to destroy a dynamite crate located inside one of the commuter carriages by the front of the train. This will be marked with a red objective marker.

Once you have destroyed the crate, our Gatling gun will catch on fire. As such, you’ll want to let go of it and quickly jump across to the nearby objective location. Interact with the coupling to decouple the carriage. This will end the memory.
