How to Find and Kill Hunters – Helldivers 2

By
Scott Peers

The Terminid Hunters are one of the most common bug types that you’ll encounter in Helldivers 2. They’re easily recognizable by the way they prance around on the battlefield, jumping from left to right as they approach you. This can make them difficult to hit at times, but since they’re relatively weak, you should be able to take them out easily enough. With that said, you shouldn’t be fooled by their low armor; if they get within melee range, they can easily kill you in two-to-three hits. On this page, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about how to find Hunters and how to kill them efficiently in Helldivers 2.

Terminid Hunters will pounce at you when they get within melee range.

Terminid Hunter Locations – Helldivers 2

As you may already know, there are two different types of enemies that you can fight in Helldivers 2. These are the Terminids (bugs) and Automatons (biorobots), both of which have their own planets that they control. Hunters are only found on Terminid planets, and to make sure that you’re joining a mission for a planet with Terminids present, you can check a couple of things from the Galactic War map. The first thing you should look for is the color-coded sectors on the main map. Automaton sectors are highlighted in red, while Terminid sectors are highlighted in yellow.

The color-coding for the different sectors makes it easy to jump into the relevant missions at a glance, but if you ever need to double-check that the planet you’re joining a mission on is controlled by Terminids, just look at the top left of the screen while hovering over a planet, where you should see “Terminid Control” noted. Before you look for a mission on a specific planet, consider increasing the difficulty to the highest level that you’re comfortable with. This will increase the chances of you finding Hunters, since although they’re relatively common, they’re not the most common Terminid bug and you can easily go through a mission having only encountered a handful on the lowest difficulties.

Herd Thinning Mission Objective

Helldivers 2 has a system of daily missions that often have objectives that relate to killing a set number of a specific type of bug. As the Hunters are quite common, you’ll need to kill a lot of them (25+) to complete the objectives, so it’s well worth playing on higher difficulties if you want to get this done within one mission. Other than that, you should find Hunters on almost any Terminid planet, but the longer the mission, the more likely you are to find them in greater numbers.

How to Kill Hunters in Helldivers 2

If you’re still relatively new to Helldivers 2, you may not recognize which bugs actually count as Hunters. One of the first things you should look for is their small wings, which are often highlighted by a burnt-orange color, as shown in the screenshot below. You can easily see these wings as the Hunters move them while darting from left to right. This behavior is also unique to Hunters since most bugs will approach you on foot, so it’s another easy way to identify them.

As mentioned above, Hunters aren’t particularly tough to kill. They have low armor and can be killed with just a few shots anywhere on their body, so they shouldn’t cause you too much trouble if you keep them at a distance. The main thing you need to be concerned with is adjusting your aim to match their movements, especially as they quickly move from left to right while approaching you. If a Hunter does get within melee range, they can actually inflict a decent amount of damage that can kill you within two-to-three hits if you’re not careful, so don’t make the mistake of underestimating them!

On the higher difficulties, the Hunters will emerge from bug holes in packs. They can easily overwhelm you in these packs, so if you don’t have a weapon with a good-sized ammo clip (such as the Machine Gun), you may want to resort to using grenades or other explosive stratagems to kill them quickly. In any case, Hunters should be among the bugs that cause you the least amount of trouble as you upgrade your gear and stratagems.
