Helldivers 2

Progression System Explained - Helldivers 2

By
Shane Williams

If you’re diving into Helldivers 2 for the first time, then you may be confused as to how the progression system works as there isn’t a set storyline to follow. Instead, the overall progression of the game is done by the efforts of the online community, but you can improve your soldiers level via multiple methods. On this page, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about how that progression system works.

You’ll want to complete all main and sub-objectives in Helldivers 2.

How Does The Progression Work in Helldivers 2

There are two forces at play in Helldivers 2, these are the Terminids and Automatons and the community’s goal is to defend the various planets from them. The main progression of Helldivers comes from strengthening your soldier by leveling up to 50 and acquiring better stratagems, weapons, armor, and ship modules which can be obtained via the currencies earned when completing missions, along with their optional activities. Unfortunately, just focusing on killing enemies won’t give you any bonuses much like other games. Instead, you’ll need to work towards completing other optional objectives in order to get the most amount of EXP, Medals, and Samples for your time.

Reach Level 50

The first thing you’ll notice when starting a fresh mission is that there is both a main and a sub-objective. You can focus on completing the main objective and extracting quickly but you won’t get much of reward from that alone. We recommend that you go out of your way to complete the sub-objectives and clear out any nests or factories as it’ll increase the amount of Credits, EXP, and Medals you get from the mission.

Sub Objectives are typically highlighted on your mini-map with a blue marker and there can be up to three available per mission, while the nests or factories are highlighted with red markers. However, you should also be aware that there is a time limit in the top right corner and the more time you have remaining when you extract will bag you some extra rewards. With this in mind, we recommend that you only clear out any nests or factories that are on your path towards the next objective.

Purchase Stratagems, Ship Modules and Armor

Alongside working your way to Level 50 you’ll want to use your hard-earned rewards and purchase some new stratagems and ship modules via the ship management system as this will make you stronger for the harder difficulties. Consider checking out the free battle pass and the superstore to purchase some weapons and armor with your Warbond medals or super credits. If you’re not sure what the best weapons and stratagems are then take a look at the pages below:
