Tanks

While you won’t come across a huge amount of German armour in the game, tanks can cause you a problem as they have the power to cause devastating damage to you if you find yourself in one’s sights.

They are also pretty much invulnerable to damage themselves - unless you know how. And once you do, you will be blowing them up for fun!

How to destroy tanks in Sniper Elite 5

There are actually a couple of ways to dispense with the menace. When a tank is in the vicinity you can usually rely on the environment to help you out. Look for vantage spots where you might get a decent shot, and, nine times out of 10, you will find a handy anti-tank weapon just lying around.

This encourages you to actually try to take them out, as opposed to running away from them, which seems the sensible course of action.

If you tag a tank with your binoculars it will tell you what kind of shape it is in, in particular whether it’s left and right tracks, as well as its engine is working, damaged or destroyed.

You can damage a tank’s tracks and immobilise it with armour-piercing rounds (go to your weapon wheel and select armour-piercing ammo, presuming you have some).

Then aim for the tracks where they glow red. It will take more than one shot to destroy a tanks tracks but one you have, it is a bit more of a sitting duck.

To destroy it completely it’s vulnerable point is its engine, why is situated between the two exhaust at the back and protected with thick armour plating.

Once you have got in position behind the tank (preferably from a safe distance, because even while immobile the turret will still spin around 360 degrees and they do not like being shot at!) take a shot either with armour piercing rounds or your anti-tank weapon at this soft area.

A hit will remove the protection and you should now see the engine glowing red beneath it. More one shot on that weak spot at the tank will be history. If there are infantry nearby they will be caught up in the explosion and you will get extra XP to boot.
