Sniper Elite 5

How to get a Silencer

By
Paul McNally

Yes, you can charge around shooting all and sundry in Sniper Elite 5 and the game does allow for that to a certain degree, but you are a sniper right? Silent and deadly. Now while your kill might not see that bullet coming from them from afar, his friends will certainly hear it, even if it is too late for the intended victim.

Sniper shots ring out and alert the entire vicinity, very often bringing down a man hunt on your location.

There are ways to mitigate this - you can make an aural distraction to mask the noise of your rifle by sabotaging vehicles and the like, but to do any serious damage and do it quietly, there are two things you are going to need to get by.

A weapon’s stat box is handy to see how noisy it will be when fired.

How to get a Silencer in Sniper Elite 5

There are two ways to keep the noise down. Nether are silent but they can reduce the crack of gunshots considerably on your rifle while making a pistol shot near inaudible.

Silencer (suppressor)

You can find silenced weapons as you travel around the game’s maps, and you should always pick them up when you see them. Using an enemy’s weapon though is not ideal however, as once it is out of ammo, it will be dropped. Far better to upgrade your own trusty hardware to have a silencer on board.

There are four different suppressors available for your base weapon at the start of the game but you can only add them by finding the rifle workbench and making customisations to your arsenal.

You may well overlook adding a silencer to your pistol as well. Don’t. There is nothing better, safer and more satisfying than hiding in long grass while the enemy hunts you just feet away and silently finishing him off with a pistol round to the head while his friends are none the wiser.

Subsonic ammo

As you move around the game’s location you will also discover different types of ammo, which isn’t described to you in any obvious way - who’s going to opt for “non-lethal” ammo after all?

Another ammo you will come across is Subsonic ammo, which as the name suggests is slower than the speed of sound, so it makes less of a racket when you fire it off. It’s still not silent, but its audible range is less than regular ammo.

Another thing to watch out for when you pick up weaponry on your travels is it’s audible range. The weapon info box that pops up before you pick it up will show you the audible range of the gun and whether or not it is an improvement on what you are currently packing.

Until mission four - Factory, you will have to rely on collecting subsonic ammo from the map. AFter mission four you can add it as part of your pre-mission loadout.
