Matthaus Ehrlich

The Special Operations Executive (SOE) want Feldwebel Matthaus Ehrlich dead. This Nazi fool has been suppying the Resistance with faulty intel for weeks and now he has outlived his usefulness. As you are going to be in the vicinity the job has fallen to you. Ehrlich is the next target on your Kill List.

How to kill Matthaus Ehrlich

(1 of 4) You can pick the lock on the side door to gain access, but this is a dangerous tactic.

Mission 4: War Factory sees bumbling Nazi clown Ehrlich next on your target list. You will actually get the opportunity early on to complete the assasination so take it while you can and your reward will be unlocking the useful M.Pist.44 for your loadout.

Now, obviously you can just shoot him - that is easy enough as he is simple to find, but you only get the unlock if you kill him using that old resistance trick - the bomb inside a dead rat!

On the way out of the first location you will see a rat bomb on the desk. Pick it up and take it with you. Head to the train yard where Ehrlich is having a meeting with a fellow Nazi.

As you approach, watch out for the sniper in the watchtower. There is a single sniper and a guard up there. Both need to be taken out of the equation.

Another thing to be very aware of is the constant armoured car patrols. You need to keep out of sight because if one of those sees you things get difficult really quickly.

Skirt around under the tower after you have killed them both and you hear the beginning of a conversation. There is a doro there with a lock that can be picked, bt don;t bother with that, carry on to the far end of the building and you weill find a large double door open. Ehrlich and his friends are talking in the far office and you can sneak in there and listen to the conversation for intel.

How to use the Rat Bomb in Sniper Elite 5

On the way in you will see several spots highlighted where you can place your rat bomb. Choose one, listen to whatever you need to and retreat to hide outside the door. You can tuck yourself out of sight of the armoured car too, but make sure you can still get an angle to watch the show.

The conversation will eventually finish and Ehrlich will start to patrol the building. Depending where you place the rat will determine how long he takes to find it.

Be patient, it can take a couple of minutes. Eventually he will spot it, shoot the rat and explode the device.

Classic booby trap.Job done.

You can also then make your way back in and headshot the officer he was talking too, who seems to have slept through the explosion.

A successful rat bomb kill and the new weapon is unlocked for future use.

As I was trying to complete this accomplishment later in the mission, I noticed that the "kill Ehrlich" accomplishment was marked as "failed," so I guess you're supposed to do it right away. I didn't understand this and it gave no diagnostic info later; so i guess I'm just "upgescrewed."

I did not go after Ehrlich at the start of the mission. Apparently this failure caused the game to complete the scheduled meeting and then throw Ehrlich into limbo... it could not complete the assassination and seemed to have lost the character. It still had a symbol to track him, but it seemed to point about 10 meters above (or below?) the supply depot. I set the rat bomb but he never showed up to detonate it. I guess the workaround is to always go after Ehrlich at the very start of Mission 4.

Hmm that's annoying. It's obviously "designed" so you do it at the start of the mission, but it still would be nice if it didn't force you along the rails.

I wonder if you got so close to Ehrlich at the start you triggered his convo without realising and it it just happened while you were away getting shot at?
