Striaton City Gym

Background

This gym is curious, based around a restaurant it’s more or less a refresher course in the basic Fire, Water, Grass triangle of power that has fuelled Pokémon since time began.

Need to Train?

You can head back to Route 2 to find suitable training fodder for your pocket monsters.

Need Help?

Ideally you’ll have followed this guide’s advice and picked up your free member of the Pan family from the right hand side of the Dreamyard. This Pokémon acts as an instant counter to whichever Gym Leader you are sent to face.

Enter the gym to receive a bottle of Fresh Water from the kind aide. The gym is testing your knowledge of type weaknesses, stand on the water droplet to open the first curtain.

Hit the Fire pad to open the third curtain. You’ll now be standing in front of the three gym leaders of the Striaton City Gym, who you fight depends on your starting choice of Pokémon.

Gym Leader Chili (Fought if starter was Snivy)

Each brother uses a different elemental pokemon depending on who your starter is.

Gym Leader Cilan (Fought if starter was Oshawott)

You will soon learn about type matchups as their best pokemon is super effective against your starter.

Gym Leader Cress (Fought if starter was Tepig)

Levelling up other pokemon you’ve caught as well as your starter is a good idea just in case you come across strong types.

Defeat your assigned opponent and you’ll receive the Trio badge for your troubles, huzzah! As well as that you’ll also be given TM83 Work Up .

Well done on obtaining the first badge but there’s a long way to go before you’re the Unova champion…

Open the TMs & HMs pouch in your bag to access this Hidden Machine.

As soon as you exit the gym, Fennel will drag you to her house and give you HM01 Cut . First thing’s first, you’ll need to teach Cut to a Pokémon to remove one tree, one singular tree, and no more for the entire game so don’t waste it on a Pokémon you’re going to keep around.

Once you’re sorted for a cutting creature head back to the Dreamyard .
