Let GGuides (aka GamerGuides) take you on a tour of Unova…
Pokémon Black and White start in a very traditional manner, with a Professor, a couple of young trainers, and some Pokémon in need of a trainer.
Once through the Professor’s rehearsed spiel about how important Pokémon are to the world at large you’ll be whisked away to start your character’s journey in their bedroom, where you’ll have a chat with your two friends Bianca and Cheren, before choosing your starting Pokémon…
You have a choice of three creatures-
Tepig is a fire type.
This little oinker will give you a good start to a team, strong against as many gym leaders as he’s weak against, the fact he evolves into a Fire/Fighting type is as much a curse as a help.
Oshawott is a water type.
Good water type Pokémon are notably hard to come by in Black & White, making Oshawott a wise choice of starter. Only one gym will really give Oshawott any trouble, making him a very solid choice.
Snivy is a grass type.
This smug creature is most effective throughout the half way area of the game, but will need help to tackle the later gyms as Grass types start to suffer later on.
At heart, Pokemon is a turn-based RPG. You can select battle commands with the D-pad or via the touch screen.
Once you’ve chosen your creature you’ll notice Bianca and Cheren take the other Pokémon, Bianca’s will be weak to you while Cheren’s will be strong against yours.
