Give a bunch of kids tools of destruction, and you can guarantee they’ll get up to mischief with them. Since many common spells taught at Hogwarts can be put to violent ends, it’s no surprise that a dueling ring has popped up, where numerous over-eager students will test their mettle against each other for bragging rights and prizes. This page will walk you through the side quest Crossed Wands, Round 1 in Hogwarts Legacy.

How to Start Crossed Wands Round 1 in Hogwarts Legacy¶

To unlock this quest, you’ll first need to complete the main quest Defence Against the Dark Arts, after which Sebastian will invite you to the underground dueling club in Hogwarts. Travel to the Clock Tower Courtyard Floo Flame in The South Wing and seek out a boy named Lucan Brattleby, who organizes these clandestine duels.

How to Win the Duel in Crossed Wands Round 1¶

Talk to him and after some chatter confirm you want to fight. The duel for this round is a 2-on-2 bout, where you and Sebastian will have to best two rivals, and as fitting for your first duel (at least in this questline), it’s a relatively simple affair. Your foes will protect themselves with yellow barriers, which can be bypassed by hitting them with Levioso. When they have such a barrier in place, hit them with Levioso ( + / + ) to get around the barrier, then punish them with normal wand attacks ( / ).

While doing this, keep an eye out for yellow prompts around your character indicating that an attack is incoming - even if you have your enemy locked down, you shouldn’t assume Sebastian will be as competent. Pause your offensive long enough to block any attacks with Protego ( / ). Ideally you’ll hold down the button for Protego, which will prompt a Stupefy counterattack, which can bypass enemy defenses, stagger them, and cause you to inflict enhanced damage for a time.

Once both of your foes are defeated you’ll win the duel and complete the side quest, possibly unlocking Crossed Wands, Round 2.
