Hogwarts Legacy

How to Customize Your Character

By
Seren Morgan-Roberts

This page details how to customize your character at the beginning of Hogwarts Legacy. You’ll find a step-by-step guide that takes you through the entire process. Plus, we’ll even give you some Harry Potter themed name ideas for your character!

First things first: Character Customization!

Customizing Your Appearance in Hogwarts Legacy

The first thing you’ll do in the game is customize your appearance! Gotta know what your wizard persona looks like right?!

To begin with, you’ll want to pick your preset. There are several to choose from, and will just act as a bit of a starting point for your character - there’s more customization to come! Once you’ve found a good preset, head into the next section.

There are a ton of different character presets to choose from.

On this next page you can choose a different face shape, skin color and glasses. The face shape will change your preset’s facial features in different ways - you might prefer a different nose, face shape, eyes etc! Once you’re happy with your face shape, you can use the skin color slider to change the hue of your character’s skin. And then finally, you can choose to add glasses - right now you only have some Harry Potter-esque circular glasses and two other style options. Later in the game, however, you’ll unlock some more glasses appearances that might better suit your style and appearance!

The face shape options will switch up your character’s facial features.

Once you’re happy with your face, it’s time to style your hair! On the next tab, you’ll find an array of hairstyles to choose from. There’s tons of short and long hairstyles. After finding the perfect ’do, make sure to also find the right hair color using the slider at the top. There are loads of options, including some more funky colors like pink, green, purple and more!

Just because its the Victorian times, doesn’t mean you can’t have fun purple hair!

The following tab is for complexion. On this tab you’ll find a slider for different complexions - it’ll change how rosy your cheeks are, how tired your character looks etc! You can also pick freckles and moles too, ranging from loads of freckles to a few facial moles to a bare face. And finally, on this page you’ll also be able to pick a cool looking scar - there are 10 to choose from.

The next tab is reserved for switching up your eye color and eyebrows. Once again, you’ll be able to choose from lots of different colors for your character’s eyes. Then, you can choose from a selection of eyebrows and then customize the color of those too - they don’t have to match your hair!

There are lots of eye colors and eyebrow choices to pick from!

On the final tab of character customization you’ll be able to determine a few more things about your character. First off, you’ll get to choose a voice tone. Then you can use the pitch slider to deepen or heighten the pitch of your selected tone. On this tab you’ll also get to determine the difficulty of the game. We’d recommend normal for a first playthrough, but if you’re new to RPGs and games with combat then you might like to choose story or easy mode! For those of you who are hardened RPGers, you may want to pick hard mode for more of a challenge!

And the last things you’ll need to do before your character is complete is choose a name and a dormitory. You have the option to choose either Witch or Wizard - you aren’t tied to only choosing the Wizard dormitory if you are more masculine presenting and nor are you tied to the Witch dormitory if your character is femme presenting.

Hogwarts Legacy Wizard Name Ideas

So maybe you want your Wizard persona to have a fun Wizarding World sounding name? Something like Neville Longbottom, Severus Snape or Ron Weasley? Here are a few ideas you can use to make up the perfect name for your character!

  1. An old-fashioned first name + a funny sounding surname name: this is one of the easiest ways to fashion yourself a wizard-y name. Just choose something traditional or old sounding and then make up a fun fantasy surname for your character - i.e. Persephone Wolftooth, Arthur Mumps, Hilda Hornsby.

  2. House-themed names: this one is pretty straight forward but can be one of the most creative ways to think of a name. You could try to think of characteristic traits of your chosen house and come up with a name that matches!

  • For example, if you’re set on being in Hufflepuff, you could try a floral or nature-esque name like Botanica Greenfoot or Vincent Appleby. Try combining plant names to come up with some unique ideas - you could even be extra fancy and use their Latin names!

  • The same could be done with Slytherin - try something serpentine like Sarissa Striker or Basil Serpentskin - the “sss” noises are perfect for evoking a snakey Slytherin vibe!

  • Gryffindor names are a bit trickier, but you could go with something that reminds you of their colors (red and gold) or house values. Maybe something a bit on the nose like Godric Redbeard or Ruby Brave!

  • Ravenclaw is likewise not as clear cut, but they are often seen as the brightest wizards, so perhaps you could try to evoke intelligence with historical figure names like Albert, Newton or Marie and then pair them with a surname that also evokes Ravenclaw values or colors. Something like Marie Bluewing or Newton Hydrangea - the possibilities are endless!

  1. Choose your favourite Harry Potter character: sometimes, all we want to do is play as our favourite book or movie character. There’s nothing stopping you from playing as a Marauder or even as Dumbledore or Harry Potter himself!

Serwina Draghorn: We opted for a funny sounding first name and a pun on Dragon for our surname!
