All Missable Seven Wonders

Although there are Seven Wonders, you’ll only be able to get the six in this chapter as the last one will be in Chapter 9. You can start this mission as soon as you enter Nibelheim, but you’ll need to progress the story a couple of times to access some of them. You can follow our in-depth guide of the mission here.

At the start of the chapter, speak to the small boy to the right of the Inn to start the Seven Wonders mission.

Seven Wonders 1

To start the mission, talk to the small boy to the right of the Inn. He’ll tell you that this village is famous for its Seven Wonders, and will ask you to check them out. He’ll mention that the town’s drinking water sometimes comes out red and wants to know the reason.

Check the water tower in the center of the village to find a red materia in it, and return to the boy. This is the "Phoenix Materia" iconPhoenix Materia.

(1 of 4) The first of the Seven Wonders wants you to find out why the village’s water is red. Check the water tower to find a materia causing the problems.

Seven Wonders 2

The boy will mention a painting of a small girl hanging on the second floor of the Inn that disappears. Check out the painting, and you’ll see the girl in the painting. Head downstairs, and back up again to find that the girl has indeed disappeared. Keep transitioning between the floors until you get a scene with the Inn-Keeper, and you’ll find out that the painting has two sides, one with the girl, one without. He uses this to hide his Gil. Report back to the boy to get the next wonder.

Seven Wonders 3

The third Wonder is to do with some unusual Bomb enemies at the Mt. Nibel - Trail. Head to the Trail from the Outskirts, and take the furthest eastern path at the crossroads. This will lead you to a fight with three Bombs. Defeat them before they blow up to receive a "Gold Shard" iconGold Shard. Once again, report back to the boy for the next wonder.

(1 of 2) On the far-eastern path of Mt. Nibel - Trail you’ll find three bombs that must be defeated before they explode.

On the far-eastern path of Mt. Nibel - Trail you’ll find three bombs that must be defeated before they explode. (left), This will give you the Gold Shard. (right)

Seven Wonders 4

This is arguably the hardest Wonder to solve as you’ll need to crack a Safe on the second floor of Shinra Manor. Unfortunately, this code is random, so we can’t tell you the answer. What you want to do is follow our in-depth Safe Code page to find out how to do it. The short of it is to check through the key-holes, and count the different things in each room. There are two rooms on the first floor which require you to count either chairs or monsters. The other two rooms are on the second floor, and require you to count Banora apples/tins in one room, and books not in the bookshelf in another. Report back to the boy once you’ve solved the code.

(1 of 6) Check out the safe on the second floor of Shinra Manor, and you’ll find out it needs a four-digit code.

Seven Wonders 5

You’ll need to progress the story now until you get a scene at the Mako Reactor. This will lead to Sephiroth going to the Manor where you’ll get access to some new areas. Head to the underground cave area, and you’ll get random fights involving "Sahagin" iconSahagins. Every time you defeat one, you’ll get a coffer key. Make your way to the southeastern room, and unlock the coffer on the right. You’ll get a scene implying the optional character in Final Fantasy VII, Vincent Valentine. Head back to the boy to tell him your findings.

(1 of 4) In the underground cave of Shinra Manor. Defeat the Sahagin’s to find a Coffer Key.

Seven Wonders 6

The final wonder of the chapter can’t be accessed until near the end of the chapter when Nibelheim is burning. When you regain control in the village center. Talk to the boy outside the burning Inn, and he’ll tell you that his mother is trapped on the second floor. This will give you a one-minute timer to rescue her.

The goal here, then, is to run in a direction until you can’t move any further and gradually work Zack up to that window and interact with it. As a general rule, run up as far as you can, then to the right and up again where you’ll find you can run upstairs by going left. You’ll need to come back towards the screen now and eventually work your way around anti-clockwise to reach the window. Once you reach the mother, you will need to retrace your steps back down and out the house.
