Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII: Reunion

Mission 4-1-6: Search for Wutai Remnants Walkthrough

By
Ben Chard

There are 300 optional missions in Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII: Reunion. The Search for Wutai Remnants (M4-1-6) mission can be found in the To End the Wutai War Category.

Tomahawk Boomerang can easily kill you in one hit.

How to Unlock Mission 4-1-6

The Search for Wutai Remnants can be found under the Pursue the Remnants sub-category that you will unlock at the start of Chapter 2. You’ll then unlock each successive mission in this category by clearing the previous one.

How to Defeat the Vajradhara Cala

Most of the missions in this sub-category are relatively straight forward and most players will complete them as they encounter them at the start of Chapter 2. This mission, however, is a massive difficulty spike at that stage of the game.

The "Vajradhara Cala" iconVajradhara Cala has an ability, Tomahawk Boomerang that will one-shot you without any preparations, especially if you can’t get it under 75% (which is very difficult to do at this stage of the game). As such, you’ll want to initiate the battle with the following setup:

Materia Equipment
"Fira" iconFira (or higher) "Iron Bangle" iconIron Bangle (or higher)
"Barrier" iconBarrier "Bulletproof Vest" iconBulletproof Vest
"Cure" iconCure (or higher)
"HP Up" iconHP Up (or higher)

The two main important parts of the setup here are "Barrier" iconBarrier and the "Bulletproof Vest" iconBulletproof Vest. You will want to keep Barrier up at all times as the Vajradhara Cala uses physical attacks, and it will massively cut down the damage Tomahawk Boomerang does. Bulletproof Vest will offer VIT+40, which will also increase your physical defense helping to make Tomahawk Boomerang much more survivable.

The Bangle accessories and "HP Up" iconHP Up Materia are intended to boost your HP as high as possible. Even with Barrier up, Tomahawk Boomerang will still likely do around 1100 HP+ at 75% strength and it can be tough to lower that. As for damaging the Vajradhara Cala, "Fira" iconFira works great from distance, just remember to pack a lot of "Ether" iconEthers for the battle.

(1 of 2) Use Barrier to increase your physical defense

Use Barrier to increase your physical defense (left), Tomahawk Boomerang will still hit hard with higher VIT and Barrier so keep your HP up. (right)

If you get lucky and the DMW grants you the Invincible or Immune to Physical Damage buffs, dart in and strike it with a flurry of physical attacks. It can also be useful to hang on to your Limit Breaks/Summons until you see it preparing Tomahawk Boomerang in an attempt to lower the damage % of it.

This is one of the most difficult battles in the early stages of Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion, but with this preparation, you can more than beat it. For clearing the mission, you’ll get the Poison Blade Materia along with unlocking the next sub-category, Behind the Scenes (M4-2).
