Best Materia in Crisis Core - Electrocute

By
Nathan Garvin

"Electrocute" iconElectrocute is a high-end Magic Materia in CRISIS CORE -FINAL FANTASY VII- REUNION that casts relatively quickly and is an AoE attack that can strike multiple times - a potentially devastating combination for a materia with 77 base power. It also seamlessly works with "Dualcast" iconDualcast, making it a monstrously powerful spell when RNG is on your side. This page will provide details about how to acquire Electrocute early.

(1 of 2) You can steal !Electrocute Materia from the !Garuda enemies in Mission 9-4-6.

Where to Get Electrocute

There are pros and cons to the acquisition of Electrocute. The bad news? It’s a moderately fussy materia to fuse, requiring high-end materia like "Tri-Fire" iconTri-Fire or "Tri-Thundaga" iconTri-Thundaga as a base, both of which aren’t easily obtainable via fusion or shopping. On the positive side, you can find Electrocute Materia in chests in the following Missions:

  • 2-3-6
  • 3-4-1
  • 4-5-5
  • 6-6-5
  • 7-6-3
  • 8-6-3
  • 9-4-6
  • 9-5-6

You can also steal Electrocute (rare) from "Garuda" iconGaruda enemies in Mission 9-4-6. Tri-"Fire" iconFire and Tri-"Thundaga" iconThundaga can both be stolen (common and rare, respectively) from Three Star enemies in Missions 9-5-2 and 9-5-3, and those can be used to fuse Electrocute:

  • Tri-Thundaga (mastered) + Tri-Fire = Electrocute
  • Tri-Fire + "Libra" iconLibra (mastered) = Electrocute
  • Tri-Fire + "Goblin Punch" iconGoblin Punch (mastered) = Electrocute

When cast, !Electrocute calls down several potent bolts of lightning to randomly strike an area.

What Makes Electrocute Good

When you cast Electrocute you’ll summon several bolts of lightning to strike the area around you. It will be automatically cast at nearby enemies you happen to be facing, but the spell has a limited range, so it’s an odd mix of a targeted spell with a moderate AoE.

Most of the lighting strikes are random, as well, and this is one of the biggest downsides to Electrocute, as the spell may strike multiple targets, a single target multiple times, or it may whiff entirely. Fortunately it casts quickly and if you have Dualcast Materia (or the "Heike Soul" iconHeike Soul accessory) equipped it’ll seamlessly increase the number of bolts summoned each cast, making it one of the more potent dualcast combos.

With 255 MAG, this spell will deal anywhere from 70,000 to 99,999 to most foes, barring those resistant to lightning, under the effects of "MBarrier" iconMBarrier, or possessing unusually high SPR. That’s per bolt, and if you’re lucky with the lightning strikes, you can end up dealing hundreds of thousands of damage to one or multiple foes with a single cast - especially with Dualcast active. If you’d rather have something more reliable, "Quake" iconQuake and "Darkness" iconDarkness are both good alternatives, but in terms of raw damage potential, few things seriously compete with Electrocute.
