Challenge Quest¶

Once you have reached Frontier Village, the Nopon Merchant who assigned you the Monster Quests will ask you to slay the Unique enemy, Shimmering Forte, who appears near the Eks Watering Hole on hot days. A hot day is when there are no birds signing and there is a slight haze lifting from the ground, similar to what you would see in a real life heatwave. The Shimmering Forte is a level 33 Deinos type monster. Take care not to aggro the other Deinos around him, otherwise you might have quite the fight on your hands.

Unique Quests¶

Unique Quests are given by Unique NPCs. In this case, most Unique quests available in Makna Forest are given by the Nopon Sage. He is only available after reaching Eryth Sea in the main quest and after completing the quest, Meeting the Nopon Sage.

Legend of the Sage¶

Once you have completed Pipiki’s quest, Meeting the Nopon Sage, you will be able to return to the Nopon Sage near the Ether Deposit north of the Divine Sanctuary landmark. He will tell you to about his treasure and then ask you to find out the legend of the Sage by asking a child in Frontier Village. You will then receive the objective to speak to Pipiki about the Nopon Sage. Pipiki will tell you that the Nopon Sage loves food, when you tell this to the Nopon Sage he gets angry and orders that you go back to Frontier Village and speak to Pachipa. She will tell you that the Nopon Sage is strong and powerful, then return to the Nopon Sage to complete the quest.

Challenge of the Sage¶

Immediately after you have completed the Nopon Sage’s quest, Legend of the Sage you may activate this quest. He will ask you to prove your courage by going to the Seahorse Islet in Makna Forest and retrieving the Proof of Courage. The Seahorse Islet is a Secret Area at the northeast point of the river that flows through Makna Forest. The waters have a very strong current so swimming can be more difficult than usual and if you’re not careful you might fall off the edge of Bionis! There are also a few Brogs and Ansel type monsters along the river, so take care when swimming to the islet. If you have been to the islet before you can just fast travel to the landmark. Even if you fast travel to the islet, you will still have to swim a little for the Proof of Courage so you will still need to be cautious when swimmming towards the edge of the river. Once you have retrieved the Proof of Courage, head back to the Nopon Sage to complete the quest.

Quests Available After Reaching Chapter 10¶

Bridge Repair¶

Once you have reached the Pod Landing Site landmark during the main quest, you will be able to reach the Nopon Researcher who is found near the broken bridge. He will ask you to fetch the materials he needs to fix Bridge Four. He needs 3 Rhogul Axe Crests which can be obtained from Mist Rhoguls and 5 Hode Planks from Hodes. Hodes are in abundance around Windmill Pavilion and Hode Lair in Makna Forest. Mist Rhoguls are native to Satorl Marsh and are found most commonly near the Altar of Fate. Once you have collected the items, head back to the Nopon in charge of the bridge repair to finish the quest. Upon completion, Bridge Four will be repaired and usable.

Quests Available After Clearing Mechonis Core¶

Final Challenge of the Sage¶

This quest is available once you have completed the events at the Mechonis Core and finished the Nopon Sage’s other quests. Remember, the Nopon Sage only appears near the Divine Sanctuary landmark between 12:00 and 15:00. Riki must be in the lead to pick this quest up, as well. The Nopon Sage will task you with defeating the Unreliable Rezno, who can be found on a small island near Great Makna Falls, during the day. The quest exclusive monster is level 96, so he may prove a tough fight. If you want to complete this quest sooner rather than later, consider turning on Casual mode in the Main Menu, if your level is significantly lower. Return to the Nopon Sage, once you have defeated it, to complete the quest.
