How to Complete Redoubt of Sundering

By
Scott Peers

This page details how to complete the Redoubt of Sundering Banished Outpost, including how to destroy the restraint generators to free the marines, and where to find all the outpost collectibles in the form of two UNSC audio logs, two Banished audio logs, and a Spartan core.

Destroy Restraint Generators

The first thing you need to do when you enter the outpost is free the imprisoned Marines by destroying the restraint generators that they’re tied to. This is a fairly easy job, since all you need to do is shoot the cooling pylon at the centre of the generators. However, there are plenty of Banished enemies in the area including Elite Brutes of various types, Jackals, and Grunts. The trouble you face will depend on the difficulty you’re playing on, but in any case you’ll want to make use of the nearby blast coils by either shooting them to cause a chain reaction explosion, or picking one up with your hands or Grappleshot, then launching it at a specific target. The blast coils are particularly useful for inflicting a lot of damage to Elite enemies, ideally leaving them vulnerable to a headshot kill.

You’ll find a few Jackal snipers on the platforms surrounding the redoubt, so you might want to take these out first to avoid being picked off during a fight with multiple enemies on the ground. Use Grappleshot to reach the platforms and take out the snipers. You’ll also find a couple of plasma cannons mounted on the platforms, so you can use one of these to rain fire on the enemies below and thin their ranks before you enter combat with them on the ground. However you do it, try to take one section of the redoubt at a time, and don’t run around too much until you’ve dealt with a particular group of enemies. Pulling multiple groups is the last thing you want to do, especially on higher difficulties. You can free the imprisoned Marines by destroying the restraint generators as you fight the Banished, or you can wait until all the enemies are dead first. However, the Marines will help you in the fight if you free them as soon as possible, and you’ll need to free them eventually to update your objective and free the squad leader.

(1 of 6) The location of the Redoubt of Sundering, southeast of Fob Echo.

As you enter the structure where the squad leader is being held, you should use Threat Sensor to highlight the enemies within. This will reveal some elite Brutes, at least one of which will be stealthed, and one wielding a Gravity Hammer. These elites are extremely tough on Legendary difficulty, but you can kill them quickly by throwing blast coils to reduce their health initially, then focusing on headshots while using the Marines for support. The elite Brute with the hammer will make short work of the Marines, so you’ll need to ensure accurate shots to bring him down as quickly as possible. Once all the elites in this room are dead, and the rest of the rabble, you can free the squad leader by interacting with the nearby terminal. This completes the outpost, but you shouldn’t leave before you obtain the five collectibles listed below.
