There are numerous side quests in Monster Hunter Wilds, some of which will upgrade your Palico with a new skill. Seeking the Goldenfish is an early-game side quest that can be unlocked by talking to Kanya in the Scarlet Forest Base Camp, provided you’ve met the prerequisites. Read on to find out where and when you can begin the quest, and how to complete it.
The Underground Lake in Scarlet Forest is one of the best places to find Goldenfish.
Quest Start¶
This quest can be accepted once you’ve completed story mission 2-3, Hopes of Home, and Kanya’s previous side quest, Fishing: Life, In Microcosm. Once these prerequisites have been met, head over to the Scarlet Forest Base Camp and speak to Kanya, who can be found by the small pond in the northwest of the camp. Speak to Kanya, and she’ll ask you to fish up a Goldenfish.

Best Goldenfish Location¶
Unlike the previous games, you don’t need a Goldenfish Bait to obtain the fish, however, there are conditions on where to find them such as areas with no sunlight. Our favorite spot for Goldenfish is Area 8: Underground Lake in the Scarlet Forest.
You can find this area by heading to the southwest of the area and going through the cave hidden behind a waterfall. Inside the cave, go up the slope to your right to find the pop-up tent location, and then continue right to find a ledge overhanging into the water.

Here, you’ll find several Goldenfish, as well as some Platinumfish. Equip your Fishing Rod, select your bait, and fish up the Goldenfish. Note that the best bait for the Goldenfish is the Golden Bug Head, however, any of the baits will work. If you have trouble with them biting, slowly reel in the line, or slowly move it side to side.

Rewards¶
With the Goldenfish safely in your pocket, head back to Kanya in the Scarlet Forest Base Camp, speak to her, and get your rewards, which will be: 3x Whetfish Fins, 5x Honey, and 50 Guild Points. Note that this quest must be completed for you to accept her follow-up quest, Fishing for Flavor, later on.
