As your journey in Monster Hunter Wilds expands to the Scarlet Forest, you will come across the Lala Barina. This spinning, pirouetting spider can be found in low-rank, high-rank, and in Tempered form. It is one of the most common monsters in the Scarlet Forest, found at pretty much all times of the day and during each time period. It can also be found later in the Ruins of Wyveria.

This guide takes you through the Lala Barina’s Ecology, its key weaknesses, rewards you can get from it in low and high rank, and a strategy for how to beat it.

The Lala Barina is one of the most common monsters in the Scarlet Forest and can be found in Tempered form in the Ruins of Wyveria.

Lala Barina Ecology

Temnoceran native to the Scarlet Forest with distinctive, pirouette-like movements. Their fluids contain a neuroplegic agent which they mix with water to produce red, petal like bristles on their abdomens. When agitated, Lala Barina open these bristles like a deadly blossoming flower and release them as florets that paralyze whatever they come into contact with.

Lala Barina Weaknesses and Breakable Parts

The Lala Barina is most vulnerable to fire elemental attacks, due to its fur and thin legs. Additionally, the stun status effect is incredibly strong against a Lala Barina, compared to the other effects. The full breakdown of weaknesses and resistances is:

Status Effect Effectiveness
Poison **
Sleep **
Paralysis *
Blastblight **
Stun ***
Exhaust **

The higher the number of stars, the stronger and more effective the status effect is. Stun is best to use because it can shock and trap the Lala Barina in place, stopping it from jumping around the arena or unleashing its deadly paralysis florets.

You can also use a Shock Trap, Pitfall Trap, and Flash Pod to trap and blind the Lala Barina easily.

The key breakable parts of a Lala Barina are its claws and petals, with its tail acting as the main weak point on the monster. Blunt damage is particularly strong against the head, while also being strong against the petals and tail. Additionally, Cutting/Slashing damage is effective against the petals and tail. Both water damage and dragon damage is completely ineffective against a Lala Barina.

Body Part Cutting/Slashing Damage Blunt Damage Shot Damage Fire Water Thunder Ice Dragon

How to defeat Lala Barina

The Lala Barina is a challenging fight initially, because of the way it moves and dances around. However, it isn’t too complex to take on and once you know key openings, you can do a lot of damage quickly. Generally, you want to either target the legs, jaw, or petals with most of your damage, keeping close to it.

The attacks that use short stabs with its legs or claws are the easiest to dodge by rolling to the side. Keep in mind there is a slight attack delay with all of Lala Barina’s attacks. If you end up behind it at close or long range, it can do a powerful stab with the spike on its rear, so ideally try to avoid being behind it, and more to the side of its skull.

The Lala Barina rear stabs can hit hard, so always have one eye on it.

If it raises one of its legs quite high, then that means it is going to do a more powerful stab. These can be dodged in a similar way, but have a long windup and subsequently dealing more damage. At the end of the day, staying on the move and keeping up with Lala Barina’s movements is key to ensuring very few of its attacks land because it doesn’t have many sweeping hits.

Most of its attacks can also be blocked with an Offset Attack or counter. It can also do a butt slam attack, where it tucks its claws underneath itself, which is an easy tell to get out of the space near it.

If the petals on its back appear, then it is about to release Florets, either while it moves or in one big spewing attack that coats the arena in them as they fall to the ground. Try to avoid these to avoid being paralyzed. They are easy to dodge when not in a fight, but if you panic roll a lot while fighting amongst them, you can get clipped by them.

The Florets look intimidating, but they are not hard to avoid at all.

On top of that, Lala Barina can also do a spinning Floret attack where it hangs upside down, these Florets fly much further but are just as easy to dodge. It can then hang on the thread it creates and do a spinning swipe to grab you. But, these can be blocked or easily dodged by staying away.

Ideally, keep away whenever Lala Barina is upside down as these attacks are incredibly tricky to avoid.

Due to its legs, weak head, and claws, the Lala Barina has a lot of wounds which can be broken using Focus Attacks, so be sure to rely on them to knock the monster down consistently in a fight. Finally, if it stands on its back two legs and holds its claws up, it is preparing to do a grab attack. The easiest way to avoid this is to roll backwards if you are far away or roll underneath and behind it if you are close.
