There are numerous side quests in Monster Hunter Wilds, and Dareel will have his fair share of them, alongside his colleague, Samin. This quest can be accepted relatively early on, and he’ll ask you to capture a Tracktail Lizard for his research. Read on to find out where and when you can start the quest, and how to find the Tracktail Lizard.
Your first job for Dareel is to capture a Tracktail Lizard.
Quest Start¶
To begin this quest, you’ll need to have completed story mission 2-2, Eye of the Storm. Once you’ve done that, head to the Windward Plains Base Camp, and speak to Dareel, who can be found in the Research tent to the west. Head inside the tent and speak to Dareel, who will ask you to track down and capture a Tracktail Lizard.

Tracktail Lizard Location¶
The Tracktail Lizards can only be found in the Windward Plains as they are native to the area. One spot where we’ve always found them is outside the entrance to Area 13 if you were coming from Area 12. The easiest way to find them is to fast travel to Area 16: Northwest pop-up tent, and hug the southern wall, heading to Area 12. The Lizards are always in a pair, and they can be found in the Fallow or Plenty seasons.

You can find them elsewhere, but this is the only spot we found where they were always there. If they’re not there, go to the pop-up tent and wait around for 5-10 minutes to see if they respawn. Note that they will run away if you go up to them too quickly. When you find them, equip the Capture Net, hover over them, and scoop them up. Now, head back to Dareel at the Windward Plains Base Camp to turn in the quest.
Rewards¶
You won’t get a lot for this quest, just ten Honey and 50 Guild Points, however, this is the first of the quest line between Dareel and his research colleague, Samin, who are having a competition between them and will constantly ask you to help them find various endemic life. Immediately after you finish this quest, Samin, who is to the left of Dareel, will have a quest for you too.
