Found throughout the Scarlet Forest, Congalala is a strong pack monster in Monster Hunter Wilds. This Congalala are often found with smaller baby versions, which can continuously hit you in fights and stun you by combining attacks with the adult version. That is why it is key to kill them while you are fighting the main Congalala in the group.

This guide takes you through the Congalala’s Ecology, its key weaknesses, how you can defeat it and the rewards you can get from it in low and high rank.

The Congalala can be found within the Scarlet Forest and later on at the Ruins of Wyveria.

Congalala Ecology

Large fanged beasts with pink fur and a distinct crest, which the males sculpt with plant oils and juices as a sign of vitility. Congalala are common in temperate forests and are therefore well researched. They’re big eaters and love mushrooms, which they absorb and then exhale as a variety of potent breaths that inflict poison, blast, paralysis, and more.

Congalala Weaknesses and Breakable Parts

The Congalala is particularly weak to Fire and Ice elemental attacks from any weapon. Additionally, they have the same level of weakness to all status effects, so choose the option that fits best with your build. The full breakdown is:

Status Effect Effectiveness
Poison **
Sleep **
Paralysis **
Blastblight **
Stun **
Exhaust **

The higher the number of stars, the stronger and more effective the status effect is. Generally, Paralysis and Stun are the strongest options in the game because they can immobilize the monster, allowing you to land powerful charged attacks or ultimate strength attacks with your weapon.

You can also use a Shock Trap, Pitfall Trap, and Flash Pod to trap and blind the Congalala easily.

The key breakable parts of a Congalala are its head, forelegs, and tail, with its rear acting at its main weak point. You can also target the weak spot on the monster which is its neck. Cutting, blunt, and shot damage are strongest against its head with solid damage everywhere else on its body. The full breakdown is:

Body Part Cutting/Slashing Damage Blunt Damage Shot Damage Fire Water Thunder Ice Dragon

Left Foreleg *** *** *** * * * * *
Right Foreleg *** *** *** * * * * *

Congalala Materials & Rewards

There are six different rewards you can obtain from the Congalala in Low Rank and High Rank, either by carving its corpse, breaking its skull, tail, and forelegs, or as a mission reward at the end of a hunt:

How to defeat Congalala

The Congalala is the least complex monster in the Scarlet Forest. It doesn’t have many special attacks besides some tremors it can cause when it digs its hands into the ground.

Beyond that, you want to stay away from its mouth and fight from its left or right side. This is because it can do quite a bit of status effect damage with its breath from its mouth or gas attacks from its rear. Sticking to its side means you can avoid these and land some key hits when it is using those attacks because it will only hit the area in front of it or behind it.

Congalala is another early-game monster where you want to fight it from its side.

The only exception is when it sits down and/or puts a hand behind its rear. This means it will use a gas attack in the area surrounding it, so you want to roll away. It can also do a gas attack from its rear and then a leap towards you when it stands on its legs and screams. This could also be another breath attack in front of it. So, it is best to just move to the side. Finally, this could also be a belly slam, but is easily differentiated because it won’t roar.

Always avoid Congalala’s attacks by being at its side. Don’t try to dodge by rolling into the attack or away from it.

If the Congalala ever pulls out its claws it is about to charge you. There are several attacks that do this with either a long range swipe and slam, or a close range double swipe. Dodging around and behind it the Congalala is the best way to avoid being hit by the devastating attack.

Swipes or charges with its claws can be deadly at a high rank, so try to dodge them or stay away from the monster as it preps this attack.

Generally, though, the Congalala is not a difficulty monster so long as you continuously avoid its gas and breath attacks.
