Dareel’s Special Research Report is the third side quest in Dareel’s long line of side quests in
Monster Hunter Wild. This time, Dareel will have you scour the Forbidden Lands for the rare Endemic Life, the
Gillopod. Read on to find out what you need to do to start the quest, and where you can find the Gillopod.
As always, go to the research tent in Windward Plains and speak to Dareel to begin the quest.
Quest Start¶
This quest only becomes available after completing story mission 4-3, Wyvern Sparks and Rose Thorns, which requires being Hunter Rank 20. Next up, you’ll need to have complete Dareel and Samin’s previous quests, which are: Dareel’s Research Report, Samin’s Research Report, Dareel’s Research Report Cont, and Samin’s Research Report Cont. Once you’ve done all that, speak to Dareel in the research tent situated in Windward Plains Base Camp to begin the quest. This time, he’ll ask you to retrieve the rare Endemic Life, Gillopod.
Where to Find the Gillopod¶
The Gillopod is native to the Ruins of Wyveria area, Area 8 in particular. If you’ve unlocked the Area 8: Gap in Rubble pop-up tent, then fast-travel to it. If not, head over to Area 8 and walk up to the central part of the area. On the western wall is a gap, and going through the gap will lead to the pop-up tent. Rest inside the tent, change the Environment to Plenty, and the time to Morning. Exit the camp area back into Area 8 and head around to the center. The western wall which separates the tent and Area 8 will have some bugs on it.

There are Pillopods and Gillopods there. Pillopods are the more common smaller versions of the Gillopods and their color differs slightly as Pillopods have a purple hue and Gillpods have blue. If you don’t see any on the wall, go back to camp, rest with Morning/Plenty, and check again. The Gillpods will spawn here, but they’re not a guaranteed spawn as they are a rare Endemic Life. When you find the Gillopod, equip the
Capture Net and scoop it up before returning to Dareel at the Windward Plains Base Camp for your reward.

Reward¶
For capturing the Gillopod, you’ll be rewarded with the following items: 10x Gloamgrass Bud, 5x
Honey, and 300 Guild Points. Not a lot, but the Gloamgrass Buds are useful as they’re used in creating
Dust of Life, a potent area of effect healing item. That’s it for Dareel’s third quest, but completing this will unlock Samin’s third quest, which involves finding the extremely rare
Sandstar.
