Samin’s Research Report is a side quest in Monster Hunter Wilds. Samin will ask you to locate an Endemic Life, called Dapperwing, which can only be found during a specific time and environment state. Read on to find out where to find the Dapperwing to complete the Samin’s Research Report quest.

Quest Start¶

You can begin this quest after completing story mission 2-2, Eye of the Storm, and the side quest, Dareel’s Research Report. This quest is begun by speaking to Samin located at the research tent in the Windward Plain Base Camp. Speaking to him will reveal that he was jealous of you helping Dareel, and in turn, wants you to do the same for him. This will become a small competition between the two of them for the remainder of the game. In particular, Samin wants you to find an Endemic Life called the Dapperwing.

You can find Samin in the Research Tent at the Windward Plains Base Camp. He’ll be next to Dareel.

Dapperwing Location¶

The Dapperwing only appears in the Scarlet Forest, especially during the day in the Plenty season. There are a couple of excellent spots to find these creatures, the first is Area 15, under the waterfall toward the southeast. There will be a few small pillars protruding out of the ground with a few Dapperwings on them.

The other spot, Area 17, has some by the top of the waterfall near the northwestern side. Once again, on some rocks. Once you’ve found one, equip the Capture Net, and scoop it up before heading back to Samin in the Windward Plains. Note that you can change the time and environment state by selecting “rest” in any tent (Base Camp or Pop-up) for 300 Guild Points.

Reward¶

Your reward for finding this rare creature is ten Blue Mushrooms, five Honey, and 50 Guild Points. Not a lot, but it all comes in handy. That’s it for Samin’s Research Report, but don’t worry, you’ll be doing a lot more of these for both Dareel and Samin as their competition heats up.
