With the heavy setting that the Dark Crusaders are as good as doggos, the game gives you weapons that use Radiance scalings to grant you noticeably good powers and scalings. One of the best examples of this is the early game weapon, Pieta’s Sword, which you acquire from the Remembrance from the first boss, which grants you the Skyrest Bridge home base. While this weapon is an early game menace, there’s plenty more to come at the mid and end game via key build items and the secret weapon quest that has been figured out. In this guide, we go through absolutely everything you need to know about Pieta’s Sword in Lords of the Fallen, featuring build, tips, and the secret weapon quest that grants it new powers!
How to get Pieta’s Sword in Lords of the Fallen¶
While above, we mentioned that you need to defeat Pieta, the first boss above the Skybridge. Players must take the remembrance to the Skyrest Hub, and enter Umbral. One side room contains Molhu, the resident vendor for all things boss items and spells. Trade her the required 40 Umbral Scourings, and you can claim the blade for yourself. You will naturally need to progress through the game to a degree to get enough Umbral Scourings before you can buy that weapon.
If you need any assistance defeating Pieta’s boss battle, we have a guide on how to do just that, with strategies, tips, and important moves to monitor.
Pieta’s Sword Secret Quest¶
Thanks to the developers revealing the secret that each of the boss weapons has secret quests to Elijjaz’s stream as the game went live, many have been hunting down said secrets. It turns out this Reddit thread has done some detective work and figured out that the Pieta’s Sword’s secret ability is related to the Odd Stone, alongside requiring another weapon. If you want spoilers as to what it is, then you can reveal the next paragraph by clicking on it to reveal the text at your own risk.
If you complete the first beacon boss, and choose not to restore the beacon, or any other beacon for that matter, you begin to walk the path of the Umbral and Inferno Endings. As part of either storyline, you can find out that Pieta has an alternative side to her as she embraces the Umbral, rather than the typical Radiating saint she is through the normal playthrough. When you get around to fighting her, then you can get her sword, albeit with an Umbral twist. Combine them together with the Odd Stone, found in the Lower Calrath Umbral, by Soul Flaying a memory, and you can get a special effect as part of the combo for both weapons.
Getting the item allows you to use a combo when dual wielding both weapons that grants special Radiance and Umbral explosions on each attack. This will greatly empower your dual-wield Jedi build. It’s also important to note that it is believed you need to upgrade the weapons to level 5 for it to work. We’d like to thank Apoc Harvester on Reddit, along with others who have mentioned how they got it to work to make the secret quest for the weapon known. These secrets will be a big challenge for players as they do multiple playthroughs and New Game + attempts.
Pieta’s Sword Tips & Build Strategies¶
Now, you’ve likely heard of this weapon so much because of its power. Once you get the Radiance level to use it, the weapon is very easy to use and scales well. You simply need to do a full radiance build to use the weapon. Moreso, the weapon builds up smite on a target, and when that bar fills, it does a burst of radiance damage, scaling with spell power and weapon upgrades that nudge the damage profile higher. It’s also a very fast weapon, and can be used with a shield. Also, its range is incredibly long, despite its short sword status. You essentially get a Short Sword’s attack patterns with just a slightly shorter range than Long Swords, which is very impressive. Overall, this weapon is very effective as you can always block, dodge, parry and trade between elite unit attacks or boss attacks and can be used for the entire game if you want to.
In addition to this, players can get their hands on a few rings and amulets that help with this playstyle:
- Hallowed Triptych: An amulet you get that allows you to deal posture damage when you apply Smite, meaning it becomes a lot easier to knock those big guys off balance, which is likely the more annoying mob type you encounter running a short sword build. You can acquire this by heading to the Manse of Hallowed Brothers, accessing the church balcony that leads outside, entering the Umbral, climbing the Umbral ladders, and running towards the rear of the church roof, and climbing to the top. This leads you to a chest guarded by a few mages and one of those mobs with a bell on its head.
- Bramble Ring: Gain Health upon inflicting Smite. You can find this in the Tower of Penance, located in one of the lower tower cells, near a Carrion Knight, with the cell having a skeleton on the bed.
With these two items, you can get some really good synergy with your smite stacking and repeated attacks. It should help to make your survivability while running through areas much better. Not to mention you might even get a cheeky stagger or two off on a boss because of the necklace as well!
With that said, this concludes our guide on Pieta’s Sword in Lords of the Fallen. You should now have a better idea of how to build the weapon when you start entering the late game, rather than relying on how good the weapon is by default. You should also be aware of how to maximize the secret weapon effects so you can push this weapon even further into the game despite its early game characteristics!
