Lords of the Fallen (2023)

Best Early Game Weapons in Lords of the Fallen

By
Craig Robinson

Lords of the Fallen’s bountiful amount of weapons stretch far and wide through the game, with various weapon types, and some getting more and more powerful the deeper into the game you go. Yet, a few weapons are really good early, and make for amazing weapons the more you upgrade them, allowing you to play with them for the remainder of the game. In this guide, we’ll show you those exact weapons, offering players the location of some of the best early-game weapons in Lords of the Fallen.

Here are ten of the best early-game weapons in Lords of the Fallen for various builds and playstyles.

10 Best Early-game Weapons in Lords of the Fallen

Below are several weapons that are worth acquiring early in Lords of the Fallen for various builds. Some of these are really early on, while a few more have a few cheeses you can consider going to and grabbing, which technically allow them to be early-game weapons. Here’s a Table of Contents you can use to auto-scroll to each weapon if you’d like.

Angel’s Axe

The "Angel's Axe" iconAngel’s Axe is a Grand Axe weapon and one of the few standouts of its type. If running around with those types of weapons stands out, consider using the weapon. This is a high starting strength requirement axe, with fairly decent base scaling for a weapon of this type, beginning with a C-.

To grab the weapon, you must go to the Forsaken Fen, and, more specifically, find the Vestige attended by Byron. From there, cross over the bridge, and head through the zombie-infested land. When you go through the water-logged area, you can turn left and face the entrance to a village. Go left again, and you shall find a deeper flooded space you can bypass by entering the Umbral. You can get the weapon from the Soul Flay interaction. Be careful of the moth lady; she bites.

Anvil Hammer

The "Anvil Hammer" iconAnvil Hammer requires some cheesing to get your hands on. However, if you can cheese it, you can completely ignore the other traditional Grand Hammer on the list, the "Faithful Bludgeon" iconFaithful Bludgeon. This weapon is unlocked by looting an item pick-up in the Path of Devotion, which is technically a mid to late-game area. However, if you happen to grind the 9500 vigor you need for the Pilgrim’s Perch key, then you can run through the Belled Rise area of the Pilgrim’s Perch, which is behind the locked door next to the Bellcave Vestige in Pilgrim’s Perch (aka the vestige with the elevator inside the cave).

If you can unlock it, you can run through the Belled Rise area, avoiding the crossbowmen and other harder-to-beat knights, mages, and clubmen. This will take you to an outside area with a few more mages, and another crossbowman. Enter the Umbral, run up the path, and go left into a cave. From there, follow the cave tunnel through the knight and his dog, and then turn right and run up the last few passageways. You should come to an opening leading to an outside dirt path. Go left and grab the Vestige. After resting at the Vestige, run down the path, and go towards the hill with some more guards. The item is a pickup on the hill.

If you don’t do the cheese, then you can expect to get it around two-thirds of the way through the game. So, it is worth considering if you plan to use Grand Hammers as part of your build. That way, you can start upgrading it early game and steamroll your foes.

Bloodlust

"Bloodlust" iconBloodlust is a unique weapon with bleed and burn damage modifiers on the weapon. This short sword offers players some options for strength, inferno and agility scalings, along with the two status affect applications. If your build is running short swords or wants to use status effects to assist with some damage, then it is a great weapon. Its other secret is that it offers the player some health restoration on kill, meaning that you can get some good sustain early on too, where you’re likely to have low Vitality and/or other status effects that restore HP.

To get the Bloodlust, you must defeat the Crimson Rector Paladin boss in Fitrzroy’s Gorge, aka the third main area of the game. Players can expect to visit this location after beating the Pilgrim’s Perch and the Forsaken Fen. After beating the Forsaken Fen beacon boss, you will then need to run through into Fitzroy’s Gorge, and from there go up the hill, and take the left path towards a fort. The boss is inside the Fort, and the chest that contains the Bloodlust is further towards the back of the fort.

Bloody Glory

The Bloody Glory is one of the best weapons in Lords of the Fallen, period.

The "Bloody Glory" iconBloody Glory is a great sword-type weapon, with its unique effect being that the weapon is barbed, allowing it to deal huge bleeding damage. This is arguably one of the top three Great Swords in the game that players may consider using. However, like the Anvil Hammer, you need to do some cheesing to get it early on. Once again, buy the Pilgrim’s Perch key for 9500 Vigor and run through the Belled Rise area. Follow the path just before the Vestige in the Path of Devotion, and you can loot the weapon in that small room guarded by the knight and two dogs (see Anvil Hammer for a more in-depth guide on how to cheese it).

Don’t worry if you don’t want to do the cheese, as when you come to this area, typically after the Fief of Winter Curse, the weapon will be waiting for you. It’s still just as good that far into the game as it is at the start, which shows how strong this weapon is if you do some early-game saving and run to the weapon. Again, if you want to run Great Swords, and the sound of a Bleed modifier interests you, the cheese is worth the hassle to get a great weapon early to steamroll the game, and then upgrade to the very end of the game too.

Crushing Gaze

The "Crushing Gaze" iconCrushing Gaze is a Great Hammer-type weapon, but it scales from Strength, Inferno, and Radiance and converts its spell power into Wither damage. If you intend to do an Umbral build, fully dipping into Radiance and Inferno to max out mana and spell power gains, this is likely one of the strongest weapons to do that.

To get the Crushing Gaze, you need to complete the Calrath content, and then after defeating the fire giant boss, head into the Mining District, accessed by the opening in the corner of the arena. This takes you to the Mining District vestige. Once you’re there, run through the pathway, follow its thin, jagged pathways and turn right when you reach a T-shaped pathway. When you run through a small tunnel guarded by a Bell mage enemy, enter the Umbral and peer over the railings that overlook a tree with a fire mage and his pet zombies beside it. You should find an Umbral platform appears, and you can Soul Flay some parts to parkour over to a rooftop. You can find the item there.

  • Honorable Mention: "Veil Piercer" iconVeil Piercer - This weapon scales off agility, strength and both magic types, converting some of its damage to Wither damage. If you don’t want to use a Great Hammer, and instead use a Spear of its playstyle or agility scaling, you can get this from the Sunless Skien, which is in the next zone after the Mining District.

Faithful Bludgeon

The Faithful Bludgeon is perhaps one of the game’s earliest, yet strongest great hammer-type weapons. This can be a really good early-game heavy-strength weapon that is quite strong, requiring a 28-strength score to meet. It’s perfect for strength-focused builds, like any Dark Crusader or Warwolf playstyle.

At the very start of the main questline, the player is told about the beacons, and gets sent on their way to Pilgrim’s Perch. If you choose to ignore the main progression route into the bell church Sanctuary location, you will find the end of the main wooden decking as a ladder you can climb down to. If you take that route, you’ll have some more wooden platforms, some parkour, and then a path that leads to an elevator. Follow the route to the elevator, go up the elevator, and then proceed onwards. Eventually, you’ll come across an area directly below the Skyrest Bridge. The weapon is on a lower platform, which requires you to "Umbral Lamp" iconUmbral Lamp walk and drop down to get to it.

Hushed Saint’s Halberd

The Hushed Saint offers a remembrance of an impressive Halberd or Spear weapon to cater to those early game playstyles.

The Hushed Knight is the first beacon boss you find in the game, with players needing to fight it at the Forsaken Fen beacon. Once you defeat this boss, you can get yourself a Remembrance, which you can take back to Molhu, who is an NPC located in one of the side rooms in the Skyrest closest to Pieta. Enter the Umbral and speak to her and offer her the Hushed Knight’s Remembrance.

Doing so will allow you to buy its armor and weapon for "Umbral Scouring" iconUmbral Scourings, a currency you get for soul-flaying memories you find in the world and defeating bosses. If your build likes to use Spears or Halberds, as they are known in the game, then one of the best spear / Halberd weapons is available from this boss. Some more will replace it later, with some end-game spear drops of the Lightreaper, but it’s certainly something a dedicated spear or Halberd player can use from the start of the game and complete the game with if they so desire.

Pale Butcher’s Blade

The "Pale Butcher's Blade" iconPale Butcher’s Blade is a solid early-game Grand Sword, which players may consider grabbing briefly. It has decent strength and agility scalings, meaning it is a great fit for potential Warwolf and Infantrymen starter classes. It can even be used to replace the Dark Crusader’s starting weapon if you want it to.

To get the weapon, players must get to the second half of the Forsaken Fen, identified by the second village in the swamp. Make your way into the Umbral and enter the lake. Solve the Umbral Blocker and enter the village via the wharf area. From there, go through the pathway, turn right away from the moth lady, and enter the village proper. From the village, you can look for a hut made of sticks across a wooden walkway, where you can find the weapon inside.

Pieta’s Sword

"Pieta's Sword" iconPieta’s Sword is perhaps one of the strongest weapons in the entire game, and the best bit is you can get it very early on. The sword is a radiant-only weapon, requiring a hefty investment into Radiance before you can equip it. However, when you reach the point you can get it, it becomes one of the best weapons, thanks to its long-range, despite being a short sword, solid damage, and easy-to-stack Radiance status effect. All in all, this fast attack, long-range, yet short sword is very easy to use and deals lots of damage.

To get the weapon, you simply need to defeat Pieta, who is the first major boss you encounter, to unlock the Skyrest Bridge hub. From there, players can go to Molhu in the Umbral and buy the sword using Umbral Scourings, obtained from memories in the Umbral world.

Ravager Gregory’s Sword

Acquire this item from Calrath City, and return it to Dunmire in Skyrest Bridge to get one of the best Grand Swords for the Dark Crusader.

We are saving the best for last here, with one of the strongest weapons you can get in the game, and it is easily in the top three great swords in the game, battling with the likes of the Abiding Defender Sword, Bloody Glory, and now this one. The weapon uses a mixture of Radiance and Strength, and also deals Umbral, Holy and Physical Damage. It is the perfect weapon for a Dark Crusader in terms of thematic. If you are dipping into Radiance on a Hallowed Knight, Dark Crusader, or some other form of heavy strength-themed build, then this weapon is a great option for you.

Regarding the weapon, the player must get the Ravager Gregory Rosary, an item pickup you find in Calrath City. As you explore the rooftops of Calrath, you will come across a Ravager impaled on a spike. You can get the item called the Ravager Gregory Rosary, and you can take it back to Dunmire in Skyrest Bridge. Upon turning in the item, Dunmire’s stock will expand, and you can buy the weapon from him.

This concludes the best early-game weapons in Lords of the Fallen. Hopefully, you now know the type of weapons you want to get early game. Sadly, there are no real standout agility weapons, since most of the best bows, crossbows, and exiled stalker-type weapons typically appear from the Fief and the Manse-related areas in the mid-to-late game. Catalysts are also sus since different catalysts suit different spell requirements, and so it is hard to recommend them with them being few and far between. We do have some lists of catalysts if you’re interested in those types of weapons, and our Blackfeather Ranger has a list of bows and arrow types if those are something you’re interested in?
