When traversing the world of Mournstead in Lords of the Fallen, you’ll find a lot of weapons among other equipment. At first, they can be a little underwhelming, but after they’ve been upgraded a few times, you can begin to see their real strength. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to upgrade your weapons until you get a Blacksmith, and you won’t be able to find her straight away. So, read below on where to find the Blacksmith, how to upgrade your weapons, and what materials you need to do so.
Blacksmith Gerlinde Location¶
As mentioned above, you’ll need the Blacksmith before you can upgrade your weapons, but you’ll need to find her first. The short of it is you can find her held captive at the bottom of the Bellroom in Pilgrim’s Perch which can be accessed by heading through the large archway as you make your way through Pilgrim’s Perch, not too far from the entrance. However, the long version is she has a quest line that involves finding rune tablets which upgrades her stock, and allows you to attach Runes to your weapons. Head to our Gerlinde Quest Page to find out exactly how to get to her, and where you can find the rune tablets for her quest.
How to Upgrade Your Weapons in Lords of the Fallen¶
Now that you have a Blacksmith, you can begin upgrading your weapon. Before you can do this, you’ll need some upgrade materials. These can generally be found while exploring Mournstead, but you can purchase a few of the basic materials of the Blacksmith, and Thehk-Ihir (an NPC who joins later).
To upgrade a weapon, head over to Gerlinde in Skyrest who can be found up the stairs opposite the Vestige. Talk to her, select “Upgrade Equipment”, and then choose the weapon you want to upgrade. This will show you the Vigor cost underneath the weapon you want to upgrade. The following screen will show you that you’re upgrading the weapon to a +1, and then it will show you the material requirements in the bottom left, although this is only shown as an icon.
When you upgrade a weapon, it’ll increase its Attack Power. Furthermore, it’ll increase the scaling of the weapon, although this isn’t always the case, and you may need to upgrade the weapon a couple of times to see it go up. If you want to know more about weapon scaling, check out our Weapon Scaling and Soft Cap guide.
It’s worth mentioning that you can upgrade Shields as they are considered a weapon, and ranged weapons including catalysts. When you upgrade these, it’ll impact different stats which are as follows:
-
Shields: Upgrading a shield will also place rune slots on it as well as upgrade its Block Protection.
-
Catalysts: Upgrading a Catalyst will increase its Spell Power and Scaling.
-
Ranged Weapons (Bows/Crossbows): Upgrading Ranged Weapons will increase their Attack Power and Scaling.
