Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker

Housing Lottery System and the Empyreum District in Patch 6.1

By
Ben Chard

Patch 6.1 saw the addition of the Empyreum District located in Ishgard for the Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker (FFXIV) expansion. This page will detail how you can unlock the new district and the new Lottery system.

The Empyreum District is located in Ishgard.

How to unlock the Empyreum Housing District in Ishgard

With the release of Patch 6.1, the long-awaited housing district in Ishgard has finally been released to players, known as the Empyreum District. To unlock it, make your way to Foundation and at the Aetheryte Plaza, speak to Gondelimbaud (x: 9.9 y: 11.8) to learn that work is complete on the firmament thanks to the assistance of all of the craftsman (as part of the content introduced in Shadowbringers). With that in mind, plots are not available to purchase and for residents to move in.

You can find Gondelimbaud at the Aetheryte Plaza in Foundation.

After accepting the Quest Ascending to Empyreum, make your way to the southeast zone exit and you’ll find Thomelin who will offer to take you to Empyreum. Although the Quest is not complete at this point (you must speak with the Highmorn Herald before returning to Gondelimbaud), you will have technically unlocked the district and be able to purchase plots in this attractive destination. Be warned however, the housing system has had a change of Patch 6.1, altering the method of acquiring a house.

The New Lottery System

With the release of Patch 6.1, the new Lottery system has been introduced with the aim to give all players a fair chance of purchasing a coveted house not just in Empyreum, but across all housing districts. In the past, there were multiple loopholes that players exploited in order to sell their plots to other players, such as creating a dummy Free Company and handing over ownership, these are now gone as of Patch 6.1.

To begin with, whenever you create a Free Company, a player must be a member for at least 30 days before being able to have ownership transferred to them, closing the loophole above. You’ll also no longer be able to stay parked at a vacant slot and keep trying to claim it for when the hidden timer expires, there is no hidden timer anymore making this a useless exercise. Finally, the housing wards have been split between Free Company Estates and Personal Estates, this means if you’re looking for a personal estate, you must head to the respective wards.

(1 of 4) You will first need to determine if you want a Free Company or Personal ward

Once you’ve identified a plot you wish to buy, you must head to where it is located and click on the sign situated outside. At this point, provided you have the funds on you, you’ll be able to enter yourself into the Lottery for that plot, at which point the funds will be held for the time being. You can see how many participants there are for a given plot before committing, so it may be wise to search around for plots with less participants. Once you’ve locked in your submission, you’ll receive a date of when you can expect the results, which will change based on when the plot first went for sale, but is usually a maximum of four days.
