The "Break Yurgir's Contract" iconBreak Yurgir’s Contract quest can be acquired by speaking Yurgir himself in the "Gauntlet of Shar" iconGauntlet of Shar which is located to the northwest of the Shadowlands Map. We’ll take you through the necessary steps to completion and how to successfully break his contract.

The Last Dark Justiciar will reveal himself upon defeating all the rats.

How to Start the Break Yurgir’s Contract Quest in Baldur’s Gate 3

In order to start this quest you’ll want to enter the Thorn Mausoleum, then you’ll want to work your way around the area until you reach the section to the northeast. From here, follow the Displacer Beast and you’ll encounter Yurgir, then you’ll want to choose the correct dialogue choices in order to convince him to let you look around the area for a way to break his contract. In order to do this, you’ll want to follow the steps on our Should You Kill or Help Yurgir in BG3 page.

How to Defeat the Rats in BG3

Once you’ve convinced Yurgir to allow you to help break his contract, you’ll want to head over to the western side of the area and jump down the ruble which will bring you to a wall you can climb down. You’ll now reach a pit that is swarming with rats, so you’ll want to make use of AoE (Area-of-Effect) Spells, such as "Cloud of Daggers" iconCloud of Daggers, "Cleave" iconCleave and "Ice Knife" iconIce Knife to clear them out quickly. Additionally, you may want to use spells like "Grease" iconGrease as this will prevent all the rats from attacking you at once or Spirit Guardian as this will deal damage to any rats that get too close.

How to Defeat Lythridor, The Last Dark Justiciar

(1 of 3) Climb down this wall to reach the rat pit

After you’ve taken out enough of the rats, one will transform into Lythridor and this is the last Dark justiciar that you’ll need to defeat in order to break Yurgir’s contract. It’s only you against him, so the battle shouldn’t cause you too much of a problem. Just make use of strong single-target spells, such as "Eldritch Blast" iconEldritch Blast and "Fireball" iconFireball to whittle its health down. Additionally, make sure to increase your party’s defense and shield them up with "Bless" iconBless and "Armour of Agathys" iconArmour of Agathys to reduce any incoming damage.

If you have the "Hex" iconHex Skill available, then you want to place the one with your highest stat on the Justiciar to increase your damage output. Upon taking out Lythridor, collect the "Justiciar's Greatshield" iconJusticiar’s Greatshield and the "Justiciar's Scimitar" iconJusticiar’s Scimitar from its corpse. Now you’ll want to return to Yurgir and a short scene will play out then claim the Umbral Gem and the quest will come to a close.
