How to Solve the Halo Wheel Platform Puzzle in Chapter 7 - RE4 Remake

By
Scott Peers

As you reach the end of Chapter 7 in the main story of the Resident Evil 4 Remake, you’ll need to complete a platform puzzle in the water hall of the castle, where you’ll find a number of Halo Wheels which can be used to raise the platforms leading to the courtyard. You’ll need to fight a number of zealot enemies and protect Ashley from them as you do this. We’ll show you how to survive the encounter and complete the puzzle on this page.

The Halo Wheel platform puzzle, Chapter 7, Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Where to Find the Halo Wheels in the Water Hall - Resident Evil 4 Remake

The first thing you should do when you enter the water hall is prepare to fight off a number of zealots. You’ll notice the pedestal for the halo wheel in the center of the room, but you can’t do anything with it without finding a halo wheel first. The zealots will come at you from all sides of the room, and there will be some archers positioned on the balcony ahead. It’s a good idea to take them out first with a rifle while you have time, then deal with the zealots in melee range who will approach you soon.

There are more zealots with wooden shields here, so be ready to destroy the shields by shooting at them first, or try to flank the zealots and shoot them from the side or behind. If you manage to do this, aiming at the head will finish them off quickly. However, if they’re already close to you and there isn’t much room to move, you can use just one shot from a shotgun to destroy the shield entirely, then switch to your pistol (or other preferred weapon) to shoot them in the head. This will often kill them instantly, but it might take a few more hits for some enemies.

It’s important that you’re aware of where Ashley is while you’re fighting the zealots. You’ll need to shoot them if they try to grab her before they carry her off or kill her. In essence, don’t forget to protect her! After killing all of the zealots in the area, take some time to loot the area (including the pots positioned on the railing around the room), then walk down the left set of stairs, as you’re facing the opposite side of the room from where you entered.

(1 of 3) A single shot with the shotgun should break the wooden shields.

How to Raise the Platforms With the Halo Wheels

At the bottom of the stairs on this next level of the water hall, you’ll encounter more zealots that you need to kill. Deal with them first, then look to the other side of the room from where you dropped down to find a halo wheel on a statue. Once you have it, turn around and take the path to the right to find a pedestal which you can put the halo wheel into. This will allow you to return to the level that you dropped down from. Be sure to loot the area before you go back up, and kill the archers positioned on the stairs above if you can see them.

After lowering the staircase with the halo wheel, you can walk up to find more zealots on the balcony here. Kill them first, then go to the center of the room and place the halo wheel in the pedestal there. This will lower another set of stairs just ahead, which you can now use to enter another part of the water hall. Loot the surrounding area by smashing the pots then go to the halo wheel on the pedestal up the stairs ahead. Using this will raise a hidden platform on the other side of the water, but you’ll need to use Ashley to raise the other two before you can get to the other side.

(1 of 3) Take the halo wheel from the statue on the level below.

Protect Ashley As She Raises the Platforms

This is potentially the most difficult part of the puzzle, and to start it you’ll need to give Ashley a leg up to the level above you. You’ll find a point to do this down the stairs to the left of the halo wheel that you just used, and once Ashley is up there she’ll immediately begin moving to the halo wheels to raise the other platforms.

Your primary concern here is to protect Ashley from the zealots who will begin attacking her from the above level that she’s on. You need to kill them as they approach her, preferably using weapons with decent long range capabilities such as the SR M1903 Rifle. However, you can use whatever gun feels best to you for the job.

(1 of 2) You need to raise the first hidden platform using this halo wheel.

At the same time as protecting Ashley, you need to keep an eye out for any zealots who approach you on the current level, since they’ll start appearing after a short while. You can switch to a shorter range gun such as a handgun to deal with these by shooting them in the head, but be careful not to neglect killing the zealots who are attacking Ashley.

Once Ashley has raised both platforms and you’ve killed all the zealots, you can walk over the bridge to reach the courtyard and finish the chapter. If you still need help with the last phase of this puzzle, check out the video below to see how we did it.
