Resident Evil 4 Remake

All Clockwork Castellan Locations in Resident Evil 4 Remake

By
Scott Peers

There are a total of 16 Clockwork Castellans to be found throughout the main story in the Resident Evil 4 Remake, one for each of the 16 chapters. They are often well hidden in places that you might not expect to look, so it’s important that you keep an eye (and an ear!) out at all times to make sure that you don’t miss one. You can often hear the Castellans before you see them, especially since many are tucked away in dark spaces. On this page, we’ll show you where to find each Clockwork Castellan in the game, with an overview table linking to each chapter.

Overview of All Clockwork Castellan Locations in RE4 Remake

Clockwork Castellan 1

How to Get Inside the Building

The first Clockwork Castellan that you’ll encounter in the main story can be found at the Lakeside Settlement, which you’ll reach towards the end of the first chapter. After killing the last group of villagers, you’ll hear one more inside a building which seems to have no entrance. To get inside, you need to climb through the window on the southeastern side, but be careful to avoid the trap in the foliage just outside.

You can kill the villager inside the building by shooting them in the head and finishing them off with a melee attack if possible, then go through the door to your right and look up to see the Clockwork Castellan on a broken piece of roofing. To “collect” the Clockwork Castellan, you need to shoot it. You will unlock the Revolt Against the Revolting trophy when you collect the first one.

(1 of 3) The location of the building where the Clockwork Castellan can be found.

If you prefer a visual guide for how to find the Clockwork Castellan, see the video below.

Clockwork Castellan 2

Once you’ve met the Merchant for the first time just outside of the Abandoned Factory, you’ll need to follow a linear path as you make your way towards the Villager Chief’s Manor. You’ll soon reach a point where you can see a stone altar with some candles, bones, and a Corvid on it. Just to the left of this you can see a small shed which contains the Scribbles About Dolls note, hinting at the nearby location of the Castellan, alongside some other useful items.

You should be able to hear the Clockwork Castellan as you’re inside the shed, and all you need to do is look directly behind where you found the above note to see it in the corner with some bundles of hay. As with the first, you just need to shoot this Castellan to “collect” it, but be ready to fight the Chainsaw Villager up the steps, who will become alert to your presence after hearing the gunshot.

(1 of 2) You’ll see the Clockwork Castellan in the corner of the shed here, hidden in plain sight in the dark.

If you’re still not sure of how to find this Clockwork Castellan, see the video below.

Clockwork Castellan 3

This Clockwork Castellan can be found towards the end of Chapter 3 in the main story of the Resident Evil 4 Remake. Once you reach the cave with the Merchant’s Hideout, you need to look east and drop down where the ladder is located. From here, go down the path immediately to your right and then turn right at the end of it. Keep going here and look up at the dead end to see the Castellan on top of some boxes. It’s fairly well hidden in the dark but you’ll be able to hear it more clearly when you’re close.

As with the other Clockwork Castellans, you just need to shoot it to “collect” it, which will contribute towards the total for the Revolt Against the Revolting trophy.

Clockwork Castellan 4

Go to the Forest Altar Through the Lakeside Settlement Cave

The precise location of the Clockwork Castellan in Chapter 4 is in a place known as the Forest Altar on the map. You can reach this area after passing through a small cave and climbing up a ladder. The cave entrance is in the northern part of the Lakeside Settlement, so you need to use the speedboat to reach this area first. You’ll find a small area to dock on the map.

The entrance to the cave is locked with an iron gate, but you can open it using the Insignia Key. All you need to do then is make your way through the cave and up the ladder at the end. At the top of the ladder you should be able to hear the Clockwork Castellan nearby, but it can be tricky to spot. Walk straight ahead on the opposite end of the altar area from the ladder, and look to your left to see and hear the Castellan more clearly. It’s quite well hidden next to a tree, as you can see in the screenshot below.

(1 of 3) Use the Insignia Key to enter the cave in the Lakeside Settlement.

All you need to do here is shoot the Castellan to “collect” it, then be on your way. If you still need help locating the Castellan, see our video below.

Clockwork Castellan 5

By the time you find Ashley Graham in the church during Chapter 5, you will have already been to the Village Chief’s Manor, located directly south of the Village Square. You have plenty of time to go back here now, and you just need to follow the path from the church on the map, which is fairly linear. You’ll need to head northwest first to reach the Village Square, and then go through the path south. However, while you’re in the Village Square you can also use Ashley to enter the barn on the western side, where the gap in the wall is. You’ll find some treasure here after she opens the doors from the inside.

When you’re ready, take the path south from the Village Square back to the Village Chief’s Manor. You’ll encounter plenty of villagers along your way, but you shouldn’t get overwhelmed if you take your time. Once you’re back inside the manor, head upstairs and into the bedroom, where you can pull a lever behind a painting which will open the hatch to the loft, if you haven’t already done this. With the hatch open, you can ask Ashley to climb up and then lower the ladder for Leon. Now that you have access to the loft, you’ll find the Clockwork Castellan ticking away near its center.

If you still need help finding this Clockwork Castellan, see the video below. However do note that we already acquired this one without recording the first time, but you can still see the base of where it was located. You should be able to hear the Castellan on your playthrough, too. All you need to do is shoot it to “collect” it.

Clockwork Castellan 6

As you enter Chapter 6 of the main story, just after escaping the attack on the villa where you met Luis Sera, you’ll need to pass through an area where you can easily be ambushed by multiple villagers, including a Bull Head Brute. If you pass through this area without raising the alarm, however, the brute won’t spawn and you’ll have a much easier time of it. To pass through undetected, you’ll need to kill the two villagers with molotovs who are positioned on scaffolding above you, as seen in the screenshots below. It’s best to do this with a rifle for improved accuracy at range.

Once you’ve done this, you can take out the remaining villagers on the ground silently with your knife, then pass through the area beyond the gates ahead. This will bring you to another section where you’ll see more scaffolding to your right, facilitating the quarry there. You’ll also see a large fire at the end of this quarry section, and that’s where you’ll find the Clockwork Castellan. Look to the right side of the fire to see it standing there, but be careful to avoid the villagers who can ambush you from the house to your left.

(1 of 4) Shoot the villagers with the molotovs on top of the platforms first.

The path to this fire is unavoidable to progress through the chapter, requiring you to follow the linear way forward from the villa, so you don’t have to worry about finding it in an obscure location. As ever, you just need to shoot the Castellan to “collect” it.

Clockwork Castellan 7

The storage room where the Clockwork Castellan can be found is located directly north of the Treasury within the castle. However, the path to reaching it is part of the main story, so you don’t need to worry about finding it yourself until you’ve fought the Garrador in the dungeon.

After fighting the Garrador, use the nearby winch to get out of the dungeon, climbing up a set of ladders and then through an iron gate. You’ll find Ashley on the other side, and another iron gate which requires the Dungeon Key to open. Another set of ladders awaits on the other side, leading to the storage room where the Clockwork Castellan can be found. Make your way around the shelving units and keep looking right to see the Castellan on top of one of them. You’ll also find a Spinel in this room, so be sure to loot that before you leave.

(1 of 5) You need to defeat the Garrador in the dungeon before you can proceed.

As ever, all you need to do is shoot the Castellan to “collect” it. If you’re struggling to find it, remember to listen out for the mechanism at work, which gives you a better idea of its general location as the sound gets louder. Alternatively, you can see the video below for the path from the dungeon to the Castellan.

Clockwork Castellan 8

As you make your way up the stairs of the tower just before you reach the armored El Gigante towards the end of Chapter 8, be ready to avoid some rocks which will be thrown at you from it. It will be difficult to evade these rocks, so you should try to take cover behind any wall or sturdy object that you find along the way. The story path takes you to the left from here, but you should instead drop down to the right and follow the battlement wall to the ladder at the end of it.

Once you’ve climbed the ladder, be ready to take cover again from the rocks being thrown by the El Gigante. You can probably already hear the Clockwork Castellan at this point, but you won’t be able to reach it until you go around the other side of this battlement tower. You’ll then find it at the dead end on top of some sandbags. All you need to do is shoot it to “collect” it, then be on your way. However, before you leave the area you should go to the top of this battlement tower to find more treasure, including a significant amount of Pesetas, a Yellow Herb, and an Emerald in the chest.

(1 of 4) Jump down to the right as soon as you see the El Gigante troll.

If you still need help locating this Clockwork Castellan, you may find the video below useful.

Clockwork Castellan 9

To reach the Clockwork Castellan in the maze, you need to clear it out of the vicious dogs and zealots which lurk behind most of the corners. Take your time as you move through it, and be ready to shoot the dogs before they jump on you. If you let them jump you first, you’ll need to use your knife to stab them quickly, which will drain some of its durability. You’ll also take damage whenever this happens, so it’s best that you approach with caution and take your time.

How to Find the Clockwork Castellan in the Maze

From the center of the maze, you need to head northwest and follow the path as it turns east, then take the northern path again before turning left to head west. Keep going until you reach another opening to the north, then take this and turn left westward again, then follow the path south until you see an opening on your right. Take this to reach the area where the Clockwork Castellan is located. You’ll find the Castellan just to the right of the boxes at the back of the wall here. Be sure to look down to spot it.

(1 of 2) The location of the Clockwork Castellan in the maze.

You should know the drill by now, but all you need to do is shoot the Castellan to “collect” it. If you’re still having trouble finding it after reading the above and seeing the screenshots, check the video below.

Clockwork Castellan 10

To reach the sewers section of the castle where you can find the Clockwork Castellan in Chapter 10, you first need to escape the Depths, which Leon was cast into after finding Ashley with Ramon Salazar. The Depths aren’t too dangerous but they do contain a number of Novistador monsters in the waters, so you’ll need to be careful to shoot them before they ambush you.

After climbing the ladder out of the Depths into the sewers, it’s a fairly straightforward path to the Merchant, since there’s only one way to go. You need to look for the purple light which marks the location of the Merchant, then look at the sewer grate directly opposite to hear the Clockwork Castellan. You’ll see it near the top of the grate, as shown below. All you need to do is shoot it to “collect” it.

If you’re still having trouble finding the Castellan, see the video below for more help.

Clockwork Castellan 11

To reach the stopover area during Chapter 11 of the Resident Evil 4 Remake, you need to take the first cart ride with Luis Sera. As you move through the mines on the cart, you’ll need to kill some villagers along the way, but most are easy to hit and you have unlimited ammo for the duration of the ride. When you reach the end of the line, you’ll be at the stopover area.

The stopover contains a small building and a number of villagers waiting for you. Deal with them first, then look at the top of the building on the southern side. You can see the Clockwork Castellan here just above the doorway. All you need to do is shoot it as you have done with the rest, but before you leave, be sure to loot the nearby Red Herb and treasure. There’s also plenty of containers to loot here before you go on your way.

If you still need help with finding this Clockwork Castellan, see the video below.

Clockwork Castellan 12

The Clockwork Castellan is on the ground floor of the Clock Tower, which you’ll encounter near the beginning of Chapter 12 after you take the cart over from the main part of the castle to it. When you enter the tower you’ll be confronted by a number of zealots, with some archers on the balcony above in front of you. You should kill these first and deal with those who charge you within melee range.

After clearing the area of zealots, look to the northwest corner of the room at the bottom of the Clock Tower. You should be able to hear the Clockwork Castellan already, but either way you can find it on top of some storage containers in this northwestern corner. All you need to do is shoot it to “collect” it. If you need help with the precise location, see the screenshots below.

Clockwork Castellan 13

To find the Clockwork Castellan in Chapter 13, you need to reach the area where you encounter the second soldier with a rocket launcher. This is beyond the path with the laser detectors and spotlights. The area is distinguished by the storage containers and forklifts in the vicinity, which you can look for after defeating all the soldiers there first. You can shoot the solider with the rocket launcher as soon as you enter the area if you use a weapon with decent range.

Once you’ve killed all the soldiers, look for a red storage container with a green forklift next to it. You will be able to see the Clockwork Castellan positioned between these two. If you’re having trouble, try listening for the Castellan. The sound of the mechanism should get louder as you approach it. Take a look at the screenshots below for the precise location.

Clockwork Castellan 14

After the cutscene during which Ashley is taken by Lord Saddler, you’ll regain control of Leon in the Amber Storeroom. From here, you need to head outside beyond the doors that Lord Saddler himself left through, then turn right and take this first path into a campsite. There are a number of villagers that you need to deal with here, so kill them first as they climb up the nearby ladder, then turn right again to enter a small control room with some storage lockers.

The Clockwork Castellan can be found on top of these storage lockers, and it’s fairly well exposed compared with some of the other Castellans that you’ve encountered so far. As ever, just shoot it to “collect” it, then be on your way.

Clockwork Castellan 15

After making it through the initial defenses of the island in Chapter 15, you’ll reach a point where the helicopter pilot Mike is killed in a cutscene. At this point you’ll be at the Cliffside Ruins, and you need to kill a few Novistadors before thoroughly exploring the area for supplies and treasure. You can then make your way into the Specimen Storage area by taking the path to the southwest.

When you enter the Specimen Storage area, head south and then turn right to enter a larger room. The small room you’re looking for (which contains the Clockwork Castellan) is just to the north of this larger room, as shown on the map below. There are some hanging bags in here, some of which contain Regeneradors, so be careful not to disturb them. You’ll also see a treasure chest in here which contains a Splendid Bangle.

Look up and to the left from the treasure chest. You’ll see the Clockwork Castellan on top of a wooden beam here. If you’re still having trouble locating it, see the video below.

Clockwork Castellan 16

The final chapter in the Resident Evil 4 Remake will see you fighting Lord Saddler in a boss battle. After you’ve defeated him, you’ll need to flee the island before it explodes within two minutes. This means that you have a limited amount of time to locate and shoot the Clockwork Castellan along the way, so it helps to know exactly where to find it before you go!

As you’re running through the Underground Passage to escape the island, parts of it will begin to collapse and explode, but you don’t need to worry too much since this path is entirely linear. There will be some enemies that you encounter along the way, but most will be writhing about on the floor, so you can just leave them be and run on. You’ll soon reach a room with flashing red lights, just after being surprised by an enemy behind a door in a brief cutscene. It’s in this room that you’ll find the Clockwork Castellan.

Once you’ve reached the room with the flashing red lights, look to the northwestern part just above the green forklift. You can see the Clockwork Castellan on top of a storage container here. Upon shooting it, you should obtain the Revolution Wind-up trophy, so long as you collected all the others in previous chapters.
