Best Attache Cases in Resident Evil 4 Remake

By
Scott Peers

There’s a total of five Attache Cases that you can acquire in the Resident Evil 4 Remake, including the Silver Case, Gold Case, Leather Case, Classic Case, and Black Case. Each of these provide you with different buffs that can be useful depending on your playstyle and preferences. We’ll show you how to get all of these cases and the buff effects they provide.

All Attache Cases and Their Buff Effects in Resident Evil 4 Remake

As noted above, there are five Attache Cases that you can acquire in the Resident Evil 4 Remake. However, not all of these are available to every player, since one (the Classic Case) is only available for those who have pre-ordered the Deluxe or Collector’s edition of the game, and another (the Gold Case) is only available to those who pre-ordered the standard edition. Although the buffs from each of these can be useful, they’re not necessarily the “best” Attache Cases to have, and the buffs from others will be equally useful throughout your playthrough.

How to Get the Classic Attache Case

  • Increased Drop Rate for Gunpowder

At present, the Classic Attache Case can only be obtained if you pre-ordered the Deluxe or Collector’s edition of the game, although this may change in the future if it’s introduced as a standalone DLC, or if it’s integrated into the game in an upcoming update. This is unfortunate for anyone who didn’t pre-order since the buff (increased drop rate for gunpowder) is one of the most useful to have, especially if you find yourself running low on ammunition a lot.

If you did happen to pre-order the game, we’d highly recommend using this case if you find that you’re using a lot of ammo. The best way to preserve ammo is to shoot enemies in weak points (legs, head etc) to stagger them, then finish them off with a melee attack. You won’t always kill every enemy in this way, but most die after using just one or two bullets if you follow them up with melee attacks.

How to Get the Gold Attache Case

  • Increased Drop Rate for Pesetas

The Gold Attache Case is also unavailable for anyone who didn’t pre-order at least the standard edition of the game. This one increases the drop rate of Pesetas, which can be particularly useful for grinding funds to upgrade your weapons. This isn’t quite so useful as the increased drop rate for gunpowder, however, since you’ll obtain quite a lot of Pesetas as you play through the game and kill hoards of villagers, especially from chapter 2 onwards.

How to Get the Silver Attache Case

  • Increased Drop Rate for Handgun Ammo

The Silver Attache Case is the standard case that you start the game with, and it comes with a decent buff effect by increasing the drop rate for handgun ammo. Given that RE4 is more action-oriented than some of its counterparts, you’ll probably find yourself using a lot more ammo than you do in most of the series. The handgun (in all its various forms) is one of the most versatile and useful guns in the game, and you’ll likely find yourself returning to it throughout your playthrough. Once you obtain the more powerful versions of it, such as the Red 9 Pistol, the increased drop rate for handgun ammo will become even more useful.

In general, you’ll probably want to return to this case throughout the game, but if you’re not having any trouble in terms of preserving handgun ammo, you can test out the other cases without worrying too much.

(1 of 3) The Leather Attache Case.

How to Get the Leather Attache Case

  • Increased Drop Rate for Red Herbs

The Leather Attache Case can be obtained from Chapter 8 onwards. It can be traded with the Merchant for 12 Spinels, so you’ll need to make sure that you keep doing your blue note merchant requests to get enough. However, it’s not the end of the world if you don’t have enough to purchase it, since this case is arguably one of the weakest. Although red herbs are useful for combining with green herbs to heal yourself, there’s generally no shortage of finding these, and since you have other methods for healing, you probably won’t feel like you have a shortage for much of the game.

This may be different for players who are struggling through different encounters, and if you are running low on herbs constantly, you might want to give it a go to see if the increased drop rate makes a difference for you. However, most players will find the buff effect for this case fairly redundant.

How to Get the Black Attache Case

  • Increased Drop Rate for Resources

The Black Attache Case becomes available from Chapter 4 onwards, and is arguably one of the best in the game. It increases the drop rate for Resources, which can be used to craft a wide range of useful items such as different ammo types for handguns, rifles, machine guns, and crucially the Bolt Thrower, which allows you to retain the bolts after firing them if you pick them up again (unless you use the explosive variant!). In addition, Resources are used to craft different types of grenades, which are essential when you need to deal with a large group of enemies without sustaining too much damage or wasting too much regular ammunition.

If you consider the wide range of uses for Resources, it’s difficult to argue against the Black case as the go-to once you have it, especially if you don’t have access to the Classic or Gold Attache cases.
