New Game Plus in Resident Evil 4 Remake

By
Ben Chard

Resident Evil 4 Remake released on 24th March 2023 and with it, introduced a whole host of new features to this beloved classic. There are new weapons, requests, and a reimagined scenario that will keep even the seasoned veteran on their toes. One of the main features from the original Resident Evil 4 that many will wonder about is if New Game Plus is in the remake and how it works, read on to find out more.

There will be no need to struggle with Resident Evil 4 Remake’s New Game Plus feature.

Starting a New Game Plus in Resident Evil 4 Remake

Good news for fans of the original Resident Evil 4, New Game Plus has made the cut for the remake. You’ll unlock it after the end of your first playthrough, at which point you can carry over your progress to your next playthrough will all of your upgrades and other such goodies.

It can, however, be confusing on the process that you have to go through to start a New Game Plus, after all, hitting New Game on the title screen will start up a fresh New Game. When you first clear Resident Evil 4 Remake, you’ll be asked to save your game and then create a new save on a different file, this is your New Game Plus save. When you want to start a New Game Plus, load that save, you can easily identify it with the “New playthrough” text on the file.

Any point after loading that and hitting Continue on the Title Screen will load that save up. If you want to start a New Game fresh, simply hit the New Game option as always, this is important as some of the Trophies/Achievements will need you to complete Hardcore/Professional on a fresh new game.

What Carries Over on a New Game Plus?

So now that you know there is a New Game Plus, you may be wondering what you can actually carry over? The good news is, almost everything that isn’t related to the Story (such as Key Items) or Treasures that are displayed by the Treasure Maps (Gemstones that you inlay do carry over).

That means expect everything that’s in your inventory to carry over, along with your guns and their various upgrades and any recipes you may have already purchased. This means you can really go out there and max out every gun you have, or perhaps try out a new gun that you didn’t have the funds for in your first playthrough.

You’ll also be able to use any Costumes you may have unlocked (that are not DLC, such as the Pinstripe for Leon) along with any weapons you may have unlocked. You’ll also find that the Merchant sells the Infinite Rocket Launcher for a whopping 2,000,000 Pesetas, that’s a lot, but as you will be able to one-shot the majority of the enemies (and you’ll need the inventory space), you can go ahead and sell some of your other maxed out guns if you’re in a rush.

How Many Chapters Are in Resident Evil 4 Remake?

With the question of whether Resident Evil 4 Remake has a New Game Plus now answered, you may be wondering how much further you have to go on your initial playthrough? The remake handles the chapter system a bit differently to how the original did.

The original had five Chapters, broken up with sub-chapters within that Chapter (for example, Chapter 1-1, 1-2, 1-3). Resident Evil 4 Remake has done away with the sub-chapters and instead has whole chapters, many of which are longer than their original counterparts. There are a total of 16 Chapters in the remake, and the three major locales are split across them, allowing you to freely travel around each location, for the most part, before you move on to the next.
