There are a number of puzzles to solve in the Resident Evil 4 Remake, some of which require you to find clues in the surrounding environment before you’ll know what to do. We’ll show you how to complete the combination lock puzzle that you encounter towards the end of Chapter 2 in the RE4 Remake.
How to Solve the Combination Lock Puzzle in Village Chief’s Manor - Chapter 2 RE4 Remake¶
How to Access the Crystal Marble Key From the Cabinet¶
As you make your way through the Village Chief’s Manor in Chapter 2 of the RE4 remake, you’ll reach a point at the top of the stairs where you need a Crystal Marble key to open the door. This can be found in a cabinet downstairs, but to open the cabinet you need to solve the combination lock puzzle next to it. This has a number of symbols including some wheat, a cow, a bird, a pig, and a baby. To find the right combination you need to read a clue on the landing upstairs, which can be read from a book there entitled Iluminados 4:3. This book details the following:

“In great veneration of their master, the people offered up their most prized possessions.
The old farmer, his finest crop.
The slight swineherd, his stoutest pig.
The beggarly grandam, her own beloved babe.
The master saw these gifts and was pleased.“
As highlighted in the clue, the order for the combination lock requires you to select the crop first, the pig second, and the babe third, shown in the screenshot below.

You should be careful as you leave the area with the cabinet once you have the Crystal Marble since there will be a tougher than normal villager coming down the stairs to greet you.
How to Solve the Crystal Marble Door Puzzle¶
Once you have the Crystal Marble, just take it upstairs and interact with the door to insert it. You’ll then need to complete another small puzzle to line up the pattern from the Crystal Ball. You can see the correct pattern in the image below.

How to Open the Iron Gates With the Insignia Key¶
Once you’re in the bedroom you can find and loot the Insignia Key from the desk drawer. This will trigger a cutscene during which Bitores Mendez appears again. Thankfully, this time you won’t be knocked out and taken prisoner, so you can be on your way once it’s over. The Insignia Key that you looted can be used to open the iron gates just outside the Villager Chief’s Manor, and it can also be used to open the iron gates that you encountered at the end of Chapter 1 as you left the village courtyard.
