Swirling Storm

Swirling Storm is Sonon’s default Weapon Ability and it’s a useful, if not unremarkable ability. When used, Sonon will twirl his Staff about, striking an enemy multiple times. This is a Weapon Ability that is especially useful against Staggered targets, as it will increase the damage output. It’s not the most glamorous of abilities and you’ll certainly have better uses for Sonon’s ATB charges but if you find him with one when an enemy is Staggered, go ahead and use it.

Evaluation

Although his defeault weapon, this is arguably Sonon’s best as it provides him with plenty of boosts to Attack Power, Magic Attack Power and HP, along with the incredibly useful Synergized Limit Breaks. This useful ability allows you to use a special Limit Break called Limit Synch when both Yuffie and Sonon has a Limit Break available and your syngergize with Sonon. This will deal massive damage to any target, and outright kill most if Staggered, for this reason alone, you’ll want to use this on Hard Mode.

When spending your SP on the Marshalist’s Staff, focus on obtaining all of the stat boosts available, with a focus on Attack Power and HP +. Once Synergized Limit Breaks becomes available, be sure to unlock it right away so you can start making use of it towards the end of your first playthrough of INTERmission.
