Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade

Foreword

By

The Shinra Electric Power Company changed the world when it discovered a way to generate electricity from Mako energy, a limitless resource that Shinra could exploit with their reactors. For many, submission to Shinra was a small price to pay for improved quality of life, as the installation of one of Shinra’s reactors necessarily came with occupation by Shinra’s security forces. The ensuing subversion of local political structures and subjugation of Shinra’s “customers” was an inevitable consequence of giving a monopolistic corporation totalitarian authority. Worse yet, Shinra’s promise of infinite, sustainable power is a lie: Mako energy is the very lifeblood of the planet, the substance of souls, the concentrated consciousness and knowledge of everything that has ever lived - or ever will. With every watt of electricity produced by these reactors, life is literally being packaged, sold and irrevocably destroyed.

The planet is dying.

Some have refused to submit to Shinra, however, aware of the existential threat the greedy corporation poses towards the planet, or because they’ve personally suffered under Shinra’s tyranny. One such group of eco-terrorists, Avalanche, has hatched a scheme to launch a terror campaign targeting the very reactors that fuels Shinra’s wealth and power - and the planet’s demise. Enlisted into their ranks is the Ex-SOLDIER-turned-mercenary, Cloud Strife, who, despite his own unpleasant history with Shinra tries to remain a peripheral figure in the conflict between Shinra and Avalanche. Despite his best efforts, a childhood friend, an enigmatic flower girl, strange visions from the past and the manifestations of fate itself compel Cloud along a path that sees him playing an increasingly prominent role in the struggle against Shinra. As Shinra’s machinations and reprisals escalate the stakes, a foe from Cloud’s past returns, presenting another, more dire threat to the planet’s future…
