Sonon’s Abilities¶

Sonon: Overview¶
Sonon is the partner to Yuffie in INTERmission however, there’s one large difference with him compared to any other character in Final Fantasy VII Remake, he can’t be controlled directly. This may sound worse than it actually is as Sonon is not like Red XIII, you can still change his equipment, materia, upgrade his weapons and even issue commands to him. With that said, and the way that enemies tend to target the player-controlled character, Sonon works best as a tank for Yuffie, drawing the enemies ire while you pelt them with Ninjutsu and other tools.
It’s a good thing then that Sonon boasts the highest HP out of any character at Level 50, along with the highest MP pool. He also has the second highest STR (on par with Tifa) but oddly, the lowest MAG despite his high MP pool. With stats like that, Sonon works perfectly as the tank, he has plenty of HP, further boosted by weapon and Materia and he has many abilities that let him draw the enemy’s attention. What makes Sonon even more unique is the introduction of the Synergize mechanic, with a press of the button, you can pair up attacks with him such as dual casting Ninjutsu or altering abilities such as Windstorm and Art of War.
Effective use of Synergize will allow you to get the most out of Sonon, as he draws enemies attacks, you can call him over to your side to avoid grabs or other devastating attacks by using Synergize and Ninjutsu as Sonon will leap to your side to perform it. Be sure to learn all of his weapon abilities as soon as possible, Incite and other abilities improve his abilities to tank and slapping on HP Up Materia along with Provoke and Steadfast Block only further his uses. Finally, be sure to make the most out of Sonon’s large MP pool, it makes him excellent for Magnify - Heal, Barrier or Haste in Hard Mode.
