Animal Crossing: New Horizons

How to Cook Recipes

By
Staci Miller

One of the exciting new things about version 2.0 of Animal Crossing: New Horizons is that cooking mechanics have been introduced to the game!

To get started with cooking, here’s everything you need to do.

Upgrade To DIY+ Recipes

The first thing you’ll need to do is visit the NookStop in Residential Services.

Choose “Redeem Nook Miles” and scroll down to find the right option.

Here, you’ll find, “Be a Chef! DIY+ Recipes,” for 2000 Nook Miles. Purchase this to get the initial ability to cook and some recipes to get started with.

Gather Ingredients

You can gather ingredients in a variety of ways. Some require you to do some farming, some require you to catch fish, and other things, you can buy from Leif.

Leif shows up on your island and can also be found on Harv’s.

Leif will randomly show up on your island and stay from 5am-10pm. During Nature Day, he is guaranteed to show up.

However, a more guaranteed way to find Leif is by taking advantage of the major overhaul Harv’s island gets in the update. Once you have five villagers, Harv will visit your island and invite you to check out his.

Leif will be in the top left corner.

It used to be that Harv only had a photo studio on his island, which was easy to get bored of quickly, but now he has a ton of new friends who are willing to set up shop there. Leif’s shop will cost 100,000 bells (as they all do) but you can easily go and visit him and purchase ingredients without having to wait on his random appearances.

Find An Oven

The next thing you’re going to want to do is make sure you have an oven.

A Brick Oven is easiest.

If you’re just starting out in the game and don’t have a fancy electric oven purchased from Nook’s Cranny or gifted to you, you can use the Brick Oven. The DIY recipe for this can be found in the cabinet in Nook’s Cranny.

Collect Recipes

The next thing you’ll want to do is find more recipes.

The initial purchase at Nook’s Stop will only get you a few to start with. More can be found in various places (such as the bottles that wash up on the shore every day).

Here are all of the possible cooking recipes you can find so far. This section is a work in progress, with more being added!

Where the flour is marked with a ‘W’, you need whole-wheat flour, and where sugar is marked with a ‘B’, you need brown sugar.
