Shin Megami Tensei V

A Wish for a Fish

By
Jarrod Garripoli

A Wish for a Fish is a Subquest in Shin Megami Tensei V. Most Subquests will reward you with a large amount of experience, some Macca, and then you’ll receive an item of sorts. Most of the time, it’ll be a Talisman which allows you to have access to the different Magatsuhi skills in the game.

Nekomata wants you to find some fish for her

Recommended Level Location Rewards
Around 28 Nekomata; On awning right after defeating Loup-garou Beast Talisman

Get a fish for the Nekomata.

Where to start A Wish for a Fish

A Wish for a Fish can be accepted by speaking with the Nekomata just northeast of the Container Yard Leyline

After defeating Loup-garou, take the warehouse exit behind him and turn north to see a Nekomata laying down on an awning. She wants some fish and thinks there might be some frozen fish inside a cold-storage warehouse somewhere. Help her out by finding some fish for her.

Where to find the Cold-Storage Warehouse for A Wish for a Fish

The cold warehouse is located southeast of the Container Yard Leyline

The cold-storage warehouse is a place you passed on your way in the Container Yard area. It is just north of the Principality that gave you the Holding the Line quest at the beginning of the area. There will be a NPC Muu Shuwuu here, who mentions the cold-storage warehouse, which will be right next to her. Enter it to find a King Frost, who will be guarding the warehouse. In order to get some fish, you will have to do battle with the King Frost.

Recommended Party

As the name suggests, King Frost will primarily be using Ice skills during the battle, so don’t bring along any demons that might be weak to that element. Jack Frost absorbing Ice means that King Frost will have a very challenging time defeating him, but you will need to add on some other skills in order to make him deal some damage. Thankfully, King Frost is weak to both Fire and Dark, so you will want to bring along demons that have Agilao and Mudo/Mudoon for the battle. Cironnup is also a great demon for this battle, if you are able to fuse it.

The reason for that is because Cironnup resists Ice and comes with Ghastfire Rain, a fire skill, right from the get go. This skill is a bit expensive on MP, though, and it’s not that much more damage over something like Agi/Agilao. Plus, Cironnup has Restore, meaning he will get some MP back from striking a weakness. If you bring along Xuanwu (blocks Ice), then you will want to get Mudo on him. If you use Shiki-Ouji, who isn’t resistant/blocking Ice, you will have Mudo right off the bat. Don’t forget to use your Magatsuhi skill to increase the damage done, while also getting criticals on every hit.

Kill or Spare King Frost

After the battle is over, you will have the choice between killing or sparing King Frost. Despite having a choice, the outcome isn’t any different between the two. You will receive the fish needed for the quest, which you can take back to the Nekomata to finish. Your reward will be a Beast Talisman, plus you will also unlock King Frost as a special fusion (no matter the option you choose).
