Shin Megami Tensei V

The Roar of Hatred

By
Jarrod Garripoli

The Roar of Hatred is a Subquest in Shin Megami Tensei V. Most Subquests will reward you with a large amount of experience, some Macca, and then you’ll receive an item of sorts. Most of the time, it’ll be a Talisman which allows you to have access to the different Magatsuhi skills in the game.

Demeter wants you to defeat another Tyrant

Defeat the Tyrant for Demeter.

Where to start The Roar of Hatred

Before you can start this quest, you will need to have finished The Tyrant of Tennozu and The Horn of Plenty. Once you have, head to the Otemachi Leyline and climb up the blocks to the northwest of it. Follow this trail at the top, past the Anzu flying around, and when you see another climbing block to your north, that is where you will find Demeter. Similar to Belphegor, Demeter wants you to take out another Tyrant who is impeding her process of making a greener Tokyo.

Demeter will be in the same spot as the previous quest

Where to find Moloch

Start off by going to the Akihabara Leyline, then work backwards from there. If you followed the normal walkthrough, you jumped down from a higher set of tracks to reach the leyline, but there is another path you could have used to get to it. This is on the side of the tracks and was right next to the one Power who pointed it out to you during the main story. Either way, get back to where that Power was located and onto the building near it. Just follow the rooftops here and you will eventually reach Moloch. Speak to him to start the battle.

Moloch can be a challenging battle, as he starts with three friends joining him in the fight, two Orobas and a Flauros. The upside to this is that all four demons are weak to Ice, so you don’t have to overprepare in terms of having specific skillsets. Even better, the majority of the attacks you will be receiving will either be Physical or Fire based, which makes preparations even easier. The only caveat to this is that the Orobas demons have access to Mudoon, so definitely make sure no one is weak to Dark here, since there’s always that instakill chance rearing its ugly head. All of them have immunity to Fire (the Orobas are resistant), and resistance to Dark, with Moloch also being resistant to Electric.

The biggest thing you will want to do in this battle is start thinning out the numbers, so you will want to concentrate on one target from the outset. The best option for that is probably Flauros, as he has some skills you don’t want to see. Flauros has access to Damascus Claw, which can hit 2-3 times against a single target, as well as Agidyne, a heavy Fire attack. He can also use Tarukaja, which buffs a single target’s attack and you don’t want that to happen on anyone, especially since the Orobas can use Marakunda to debuff your defense. That’s the extent of their buffing/debuffing, though, so anything else is fair game on your side.

(1 of 2) All of the enemies in this battle are weak to Ice

All of the enemies in this battle are weak to Ice (left), Debuffing Moloch’s accuracy will keep his Physical attacks at bay (right)

In fact, you should also start the battle by debuffing Moloch’s accuracy/evasion, as his two Physical skills have low accuracy to start. Once you get rid of Flauros, you can move onto the two Orobas. As already mentioned, they have Mudoon and Marakunda, as well as Maragion. You can counter the debuff with either Dekunda or just casting Marakunda, while the other two skills are pretty self-explanatory. Thankfully, the Flauros and both Orobas don’t have as much health as Moloch, so it shouldn’t take too long to bring them down. Once Moloch is by himself, then he should be pretty easy to defeating. Having Fire immunity on your characters will make this battle a lot more manageable.

Upon finishing Moloch, report back to Demeter to finish the quest and receive your reward.
