Shin Megami Tensei V

A Goddess Stolen

By
Jarrod Garripoli

A Goddess Stolen is a Subquest in Shin Megami Tensei V. Most Subquests will reward you with a large amount of experience, some Macca, and then you’ll receive an item of sorts. Most of the time, it’ll be a Talisman which allows you to have access to the different Magatsuhi skills in the game.

Jack Frost wants you to defeat Loki and rescue Idun

Recommended Level Location Rewards
36+ Jack Frost; South-southwest of Fairy Village, where Idun was located during main quest Small Glory Crystal x2; Unlocks Idun for special fusion

Hunt down Loki and rescue Idun.

Where to start A Goddess Stolen

You won’t be able to find this subquest until you’ve completed A Golden Opportunity in the main story. Once you have, head back to where you originally found Idun during that to find a lone Jack Frost there instead. He will be the one who will give you this quest. It seems that the goddess, Idun, is missing and he suspects that Loki is behind it, who was the one who stole the golden apples in the first place. Jack Frost points out where you may find Loki, which is actually along the train tracks.

You will find Jack Frost right where Idun previously was located

Where to find Loki for A Goddess Stolen

If you remember where you found Golden Apple #2 during the main quest, then you need to go there first. If you don’t remember, go north of the Jack Frost who gave you the quest and head past the Basilisks. Go up the climbing block, past the Berith/Eligor, then up the next climbing block just past the big hill. To the west of there are some train tracks, so follow them south-southwest, until you reach the end past some Lilims. Jump down onto the second set of tracks, then look for the little cave all the way at the end to find Loki. Be prepared for a battle as you approach Loki.

Loki will be in a cave at the end of the train tracks

Recommended Party

First and foremost, Loki uses all four of the basic elements (Fire, Ice, Electric, and Force), so it’s going to be difficult to cover all of those on your team. Thankfully, though, he only uses Ice whenever he gathers Magatsuhi, so you can easily know when that is coming. Loki is weak to Light, while resisting Force and Dark, and blocking Ice. That means you should be focusing on having Light skills on your team, which is why Thoth is a great demon to have. He learns Hamaon, as well as Light Pieroma, so that will pack an extra punch. Thoth also doesn’t have a weakness to any of the elements that Loki uses, with him blocking Fire.

You will want to bring debuffs to the battle, since Loki does have a pretty high Magic stat and even with Tarunda, his attacks will still do some decent damage. Sukunda also helps a lot, and if you have Masukukaja, then use that to give Loki a chance to miss an attack (especially if he resorts to a normal one). Loki is also weak to Poison, so if you have any skills that can inflict it, then you will want to use them on him. Besides the elemental attacks, the only other skill in Loki’s arsenal is Pulinpa, which can inflict Confusion on one character. Since this is only a single-target one, be ready to heal it should it happen.

(1 of 2) Loki’s low Vitality means the damage done should be pretty high

Loki’s low Vitality means the damage done should be pretty high (left), You can predict when Mabufula happens, so it’s easy to block it with a Dampener (right)

Overall, Loki can be a challenging battle, due to his varied skillset. Trying to have demons that aren’t weak against any of them can be a problem, especially when combined with the fact that Loki’s Magic stat is pretty high. However, if you exploit his Light weakness and have a dedicated healer (Diarama is best here, since most of Loki’s damage is single target), then you shouldn’t have too much trouble. Loki’s low Vitality means he’s going to take quite a bit of damage from your attacks.

Once you defeat Loki, answer whatever you want to the following question, then Idun will be set free. Return to the Jack Frost at his initial position to get your reward, which also includes unlocking Idun for special fusion.
