Fallout: New Vegas

Questing For Crocker

By
Nathan Garvin

Things That Go Boom

This section will cover the end-game quests for the NCR, starting after you destroy Mr. Houses’s bunker under Fortification Hill. Return to the New Vegas Strip and enter the NCR Embassy, where you were told by an NCR Trooper that Ambassador Crocker awaits you. Ambassador Crocker will, when you talk to him, tell you that something big is about to go down, but since you’re such a helpful person, he assumes you’ll naturally lend the NCR a hand, right? Right?

Sure, or else you wouldn’t be in this section of the guide. Ask him what he needs done and he’ll tell you that the Boomers - a tribe north-east of New Vegas - that now must be forced to pick a side. If you completed the quest Volare! earlier (and you should have) this is going to be a very easy quest to complete. If not, you’ll need to skip to the “Volare!” section of the guide and complete that quest for the Boomers. Once done, talk to Pearl about helping out the NCR and, if you’re “Idolized” amongst the Boomers and have completed Volare! she should readily agree. Return to Ambassador Crocker and he’ll reward you then give you your next task.

Objective Reward
For earning the support of the Boomers 200 XP NCR Fame

Kings Gambit

The King’s are still causing trouble in Freeside, despite whatever resolution you achieved in the quest G.I. Blues . On the plus side, however, if you completed G.I. Blues and didn’t cash in your favor with The King yet, this quest can be as simple as going to him and asking him to stop the violence with the NCR for your favor. Failing that, there are still plenty of options, the best of which revolve around eliminating the instigator of most of this violence; Pacer. These are generally better options that relying on a diplomatic solution, so let’s start with them.

The easiest way to get The Kings to stop the violence is the cash in the favor you may have earned at the end of the quest G.I. Blues (left). Another qucky solution is to simply kill Pacer with an Energy Weapon (right).

The easiest way to get rid of Pacer and keep suspicion from turning towards the NCR is to simply kill him all sneaky-like with an Energy Weapon. Simple enough, just wait for for him to go up to his room for the night in the Kings School of Impersonation and kill him when nobody else is around with a sneak attack critical. One shot from Pew Pew should be more than enough to get the job done. Alternatively, you can go to the Old Mormon Fort, enter the tower where Julie Farkas dwells, and search a Filing Cabinet behind the medical bed on the bottom floor. Inside you can find medical records for a number of people in Freeside, include Pacer who, ironically enough, has a heart condition. To kill him in this somewhat more inventive way, sneak into his room and spike his Jet Stash (which looks like a Carton of Cigarettes and can be found under his bed) with some Psycho, then just wait around until Pacers partakes of the spiked Jet.

However you succeed at getting The Kings to tone things down in Freeside, return to Crocker for your reward, which you can embellish by passing a [Barter 60] check. He’ll refer you to Colonel Cassandra Moore at Hoover Dam for your next mission (skip down to “For the Republic, Part 2” ).

If you want to be sneakier, however, find Pacer’s patient file from a Cabinet in the Old Mormon Fort (left) then spike his Jet supply with some Psycho (right).

Objective Reward
For stopping the violence in Freeside 1300 XP 600 Caps NCR Fame

The diplomatic approaches on the other hand are just inventive ways to fail the quest, and considering how easy the other, Pacer-related options are, it’s hard to see why anybody would rather go down these routes. Still, if that’s the way you want to go, either turn down the assassination route with Ambassador Crocker or talk to The King, have him reject your appeal to curb the violence in Freeside, then return to Ambassador Crocker. He’ll refer you to one Colonel Moore at the Hoover Dam or Colonel Hsu at Camp McCarran. The former will take a “might makes right” approach while the latter will try a more soft-handed tactic.

To go through with Colonel Moore’s plan, head to Hoover Dam, enter the Visitor Center, take an Elevator to the south to reach the Hoover Dam Power Plant 01 area. Once here, go through a doorway to the east then enter a door to the Hoover Dam Offices area. From the entrance to this area head north and go through the first door to the east to find Colonel Cassandra Moore in her office. You’ll be meeting with her quite often from now on, so keep those directions in mind. Talk to her and she’ll make a direct, brutal plan for dealing with The Kings, exactly as Crocker warned. Colonel Hsu’s approach is more nuanced, but it still ends up with NCR Troopers in The Kings School of Impersonation. In the former case, the NCR Troopers will start firing as soon as The King refuses to cooperate, in the latter case, Pacer will pick a fight if you try to reason with The King. In either case, the quest fails, and you won’t get a full reward, but you’ll be directed to continue working with Cassandra Moore regardless.

If you bring NCR Troopers into Freeside, violence is inevitable (left). If you botch the situation with The Kings, Ambassador Crocker will not be pleased (right).

Objective Reward
For botching the NCR’s attempts to curb the violence in Freeside 300 XP NCR Infamy

The year is 2281 - two hundred years after the old world was eradicated by nuclear fire - and now the New California Republic has become powerful along the western coast of what used to be the United State of America. They’ve expanded east into Nevada, but across the Colorado river to the east a united army of tribals - Caesar’s Legion - have been organized under the guise of ancient Rome. War never changes, and impending conflict looms between the two sides, the prize being the Hoover Dam and control over the Mojave. Stuck in the middle are the residents of Nevada and the jewel in the desert; the city of New Vegas. But the mysterious overlord of New Vegas has his own plans for the future of the Mojave…

You are Courier six, an employee of the Mojave Express who has been entrusted with delivering a mysterious Platinum Chip. The delivery goes horribly awry, however, and after you are robbed and nearly killed for the package you were carrying, you must set out in pursuit of your attackers.
