Windforce is one of those Diablo staples, a weapon that’s been in every game thus far. Back in the early days of Lord of Destruction, Windforce was the best bow a [Bowazon] could get her hands on. After patch 1.10, the inclusiong of runewords like [Faith] and [Ice] knocked Windforce off its perch. Still, it probably ranks as the third best bow in the game, and considering the competition (both of which cost Jah runes), third place makes it a very, very good bow. It is, in fact, the bow with the highest physical damage output in the game… not counting the boosts [Faith] gets from its Fanaticism aura.
Windforce can be considered, in many ways, an evolution of Buriza-Do Kyanon. Both possess high Enhanced Damage (Windforce has a flat +250% Enhanced Damage), both give +Maximum Damage per Level (Windforce’s +3.125 Damage/Level exceeds Buriza-Do Kyanon +2.5 Damage/Level) and while Buriza-Do Kyanon has higher Increased Attack Speed, it needs it - a base Ballista is much slower than a Hydra Bow. Windforce swaps out Piercing Attack in favor of Knockback and adds 6 - 8% Mana Leech. As impressive as Buriza-Do Kyanon is, Windforce will outdamage it by well over 100 points at higher levels. Somewhat less if the former is upgraded to a Colossus Crossbow.
All these good things come at a price, however - Windforce is rare. Not prohibitively so, like some other elite uniques, but you’ll need to farm aLv85 areas to find it, or kill Diablo, Baal, Shenk, Eldritch and/or Pindle and hope for the best.
