Eschuta’s Temper is primarily an offensive-focused orb, having none of the Magic Find or resistances that [The Oculus] boasts. Fortunately Eschuta’s Temper also lacks the random chance to teleport its wielder that its aforementioned midtier rival is infested with. The main draw of Eschuta’s Temper is its variable (10 - 20%) boost to both fire and lightning damage, which sounds impressive until you realize that this is damage added to the bonus given by Fire/Lightning Mastery, not a +10 - 20% boost to end damage.
Aside from that, Eschuta’s Temper has one major downside - it’s highly variable. While the damage boost it can spawn with is bad enough, it can also spawn with +1 to +3 Sorceress Skills. It’s quite possible - likely even - to find an Eschuta’s Temper that’s not really competitive with Heart of the Oak in terms of damage, nevermind overall utility, and while it’s not one of the rarest items in the game, it’s still rare enough to sting when you don’t get the rolls you want.
Even if you do get the rolls you want, Heart of the Oak and [The Oculus] both offer more survivability (random teleportation aside), and [The Oculus] is a much better Magic Find option. For a Lightning Sorceress, a relatively low-tier runeword like Crescent Moon can effectively add more damage than Eschuta’s Temper. All in all, it’s a good weapon, but not really the best in any category.
Hell Mephisto has a fair chance to drop this item.
