Diablo II: Resurrected

The Oculus

By
Nathan Garvin

The Oculus comes very, very close to being a weapon like [Titan’s Revenge] - a midtier weapon with endgame stats. At a glance, it would seem to be a Sorceress’s dream weapon; +3 to Sorceress Skills, +30% Faster Cast Rate, +20 to Vitality and Energy, All Resistances +20, and +50% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items. A definite improvement over a Spirit sword!

It does some with one crippling downside that’ll make you very, very happy to see a Vex rune drop, however: every time you take a hit, you’ve got a 25% chance to randomly teleport somewhere on-screen. This includes pretty much every source of incoming damage, no matter how minor (even standing in fire!), but fortunately exclude poison damage over time. Needless to say, this is not viable for hardcore play, and over time it’ll become enough of a nuisance on softcore. When your midlevel Sorceress is doing Nightmare/Hell Mephisto runs or Hell Andariel runs, you’ll be glad to see this drop. You’ll feel just as glad to retire it in favor of Heart of the Oak when resources allow.

If you care about raw Magic Find, however, there’s no better combination of power and Magic Find for a Sorceress. Just socket it and stick an Ist rune in it and you’ll have a weapon with +80% Magic Find. Very nice.

While its iLv (50) makes it a solidly midtier item, it’s one of those harder-to-find midtier items, like Herald of Zakarum. Nightmare Mephisto is one of the first enemies who will drop it, and is probably the easiest to farm for it.

Nuisance teleport modifier aside, The Oculus is one of the best weapons a Sorceress can employ.
