Outside the Animus¶
Having done everything there is to do - or everything you care to do, as the case may be - in Siwa, tag the quest “May Amun Walk Beside You” and talk to Hepzefa and confirm you wish to leave Siwa. After some chatter you’ll be given some info, before you’re dragged out of the Animus to suffer through one of the present-day portions that regularly break up the action in Assassin’s Creed games.
Layla Hassan - the distant ancestor of Bayek currently reliving his past exploits via a machine called the Animus - will be pestered by one Deanna Geary, who is rather insistent that Layla takes basic precautions to avoid… well, death. When you’re in control, note that you can access a variety of information on the world outside the Animus by pressing [Options] (Playstation 4) or [Menu] (Xbox One). Alternatively you can fiddle with a nearby laptop for the same info.
Head to the quest objective to find the medicine Layla needs, after which you can mercifully re-enter the Animus. There’s precious little to do outside besides chat with Bayek’s mummy and search for some wind-scattered papers. This ends the quest “May Amun Walk Beside You” and begins the quest “Aya” .
Just Play the Game¶
When you’re back in control of Bayek, you’ll helpfully be pointed towards the in-game store, where you can buy various in-game objects, such as weapons, resources, mounts, maps… even ability points. Ugh. You’ll even be given 200 Helix Points (the in-game currency which can otherwise be purchased with real money) to facilitate your first purchase, although most everything you’d care to buy is conveniently just a bit more than that… If you have a Uplay account, you can spend Uplay Units to earn some new outfits and rare or legendary weapons. You’ll earn Uplay Units by completing various tasks in game, making it preferable to spending real money on these things. Neither are necessary to complete the game, however, as you’ll get plenty of weapons, Drachmas and resources by just playing.
Enroute to Alexandria¶
Anyway, with that all out of the way, it’s time to get back to the business at hand. Bayek is now in the Iment Nome area of the map, northeast of Siwa, and yes, you can fast-travel back to Siwa at any time - even now, if you wish. Before doing anything else, though, you should make sure to head to the nearest fast travel spot and synchronize there so you can travel back and forth between the Iment Nome and Siwa areas at will. Given the strength of some bandits that dwell in the area between the two aforementioned zones (the Qattara Depression), riding across is perilous, at best.
Once that’s done you’ve got a choice to make; explore the Iment Nome and/or the Lake Mareotis areas to gain some extra experience, or continue riding to Alexandria. If you’re level six or lower, you probably need to level up a bit. Level seven is pushing it, but level eight and above should be fine. If you want to level up by exploring the next two areas, continue reading sequentially through the “Iment Nome” and “Lake Mareotis” sections, otherwise skip ahead to “ Alexandria“ .
