Assassin's Creed: Origins

The Smugglers of Cyrene

By
Nathan Garvin

Suggested Level: 37

This quest should begin after completing “ Cat and Mouse “, and since you’re done with all the quests in Cyrene, this is a nice excuse to jump north to Apollonia. Make your way to the southwestern corner of Alexandria where you’ll find a shelter where lumber is being stored, which is where Sminthos, The Mouse, has relocated. Seems Smithnos has decided to get out of the shady business he was involved in back in Cyrene, but to do that he’s going to need some cash… which he aims to collect through less than legal means, naturally.

Find Sminthos in Apollonia, who once again gets Bayek involved in his schemes (left). the mast of a ship makes for a fine firing platform, which you can use to pick off Romans on the dock below.

Follow Sminthos through Apollonia and he’ll lead you to a dock occupied by Romans, where he’ll encourage you to steal some shipping manifests. Naturally, the Romans won’t part with these willingly, so a bit of murder may be involved. Just as well, it’s one of Bayek’s favorite past-times. Use Senu to locate the manifest, then climb atop the mast of a ship overlooking (south, southeast of) the Roman dock, from which you can pick off Romans at your leisure, or failing that, climb around the outside edge of the stone dock from which you can whistle to and dispatch nearby Romans. Just be wary of other ship docking along the northwestern edge of the dock. Kill the targeted Roman to claim the Apollonia Dock Manifest, then loot a small white chest along the southwestern end of the dock before returning to Sminthos.

Tell Sminthos the contents about the manifest and he’ll… well, honestly do little more than cheer you on. Make your way along the coast to the east to reach four over-lapping search areas marking the rough locations of the treasure you need to recover for poor Sminthos. Use Senu to pin-point their locations, which are all clustered around the Thibron Expedition Shipwreck point of interest.

Thibron Expedition Shipwreck

Some Romans seek to claim your treasure, dissuade them with death (left) then dive into the water and plunder a shipwreck (right).

Mark the treasure Sminthos set you after, then scan for the two treasures that are part of this area. Might as well get a little something for yourself while you’re done here, right? Be wary of the Romans sailing about in the area, there are likely two small, two-man ships over the dive site, which could also be bolstered by random Roman patrols if you’re unlucky. Kill the Romans, then dive and collect all the treasure you marked, which includes a red chest, a white chest and four sacks of Smuggler’s Loot .

Reward: For completing the Thibron Expedition Shipwreck
450 XP

Kill the bandits harassing Sminthos (left), then give him the treasure he seeks (right).

Once you have the loot Sminthos wanted, continue east along the coast until you find some seaside ruins, where The Mouse has gotten himself into more trouble. Kill the half-dozen or so bandits in the area, then free and chat with Sminthos to end the quest.

Reward: For completing the quest “The Smugglers of Cyrene”
4,000 XP, Medusa

The year is 48 BCE, and both Rome and Ptolemaic Egypt are torn by civil wars. In the chaos caused by this political upheaval, a shadowy conspiracy seeks the mysteries buried under the sands of Egypt, not sparing any who stand in the way of their ambitions. One such aggrieved individual, Bayek, a Medjay from Siwa, now seeks revenge against this secret organization. Ultimately going back to the origins of the Assassin’s Brotherhood, Assassin’s Creed Origins is a rebirth of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, adding a vast open world, a revamped combat system and RPG elements to the prolific stealth-action series.
