Suggested Level: 24
Stonemasons Tale¶
This quest can be found near Karanis after the quest “ Murder in the Temple “ ends. Since Bayek’s already helped out with one of the problems plaguing Karanis, why not another? As soon as you leave the high priest’s villa, a woman will pester you, telling you that - in addition to their hunger - she has reason to believe the guards are doing something… not so nice to the peasants. She begs you to speak to her husband, a stone mason working along the northwestern end of the temple, and to not be seen doing so.
Head over to her husband - marked by a quest marker - to find him toiling on the wall and talk to him. He’s flighty, but he’ll repeat what his wife already told you he said, which will have to do.
Underground Stash¶
Turn east and drop down to lower ground to find a passage leading under the temple, watched by one guard. Kill him and head on into the darkness, where you’ll find some stairs leading down, as well as a few more guards. There’s little in the way of cover for you to use, so you’ll probably just have to kill them. After you’re done, smash a reed door to the southeast, beyond which you can find a letter and two chests to loot, which just so happen to be the location objective for this place - the Underground Stash.

Swimming Sobek¶
Leave the generous room you were in and turn northeast to find a doorway leading deeper into the depths under the temple. Activate your Animus Pulse to mark some objects of interest, then examine a letter on the ground. It implicates somebody named the “Butcher” and also implicates the Crocodile, whose minion the Butcher appears to be. Well, the Crocodile is the ultimate target, so messing with his minions is definitely on Bayek’s short list, and for now he’ll content himself to go to this “bathing Sobek” and follow the money trail.
Leave Karanis and follow the road west along the coast until you’re near a search area, at which deploy Senu to pin-point your target. Locate the treasure you hope to steal, which is near the Sunken Temple of Pnepheros point of interest, and while you’re at it scan for two other bits of submerged treasure as well. Once that’s done, sneak into the ruins, which is a restricted zone crawling with guards. Not only do you have to worry about the guards (level 25) on the ground, but jerks on boats can’t be ruled out, nor can crocodiles. Fortunately, there are ruins you can climb on to gain high ground, as well as plenty of foliage to hide in. Just watch out for the dual-dagger wielding guards, as they’re stronger than they look, and aren’t above using tools on you.
Sunken Temple of Pnepheros¶
When the guards are dead, enter the water and swim to the treasure Senu spotted, diving when you’re above it. One treasure is near the feet of the Sobek statue, while another - and the Butcher’s chest - can be found in some ruins under the statue. When you investigate the Butcher’s chest, you’ll be led to a village to the west - Soknopaiou. Before you run off, swim west of the swimming statue of Sobek to find a third and final treasure chest near some ruins on the lake floor. Nabbing all three non-quest related chests should complete this location.

Soknopaiou Storehouse¶
Return to shore, summon your mount and ride west until you reach Soknopaious. As with Karanis, there’s a mandatory fast travel point that’ll active when you get close, as well as an optional one you can synchronize with. Do what you will, then send Senu aloft to search for this storehouse you’re after, then head to the spot Senu marked.
Fortunately this warehouse isn’t terribly well-guarded - at least not on the outset - despite what Bayek and the quest log says. There are only four guards (level 24) about, and none of them are exceptional specimens. Heck, you can probably kill them all by taking to some bushes near the warehouse and whistling them all to their doom.
When they’re gone, enter the warehouse and smash a reed door to find a much larger complex beyond, descending into the depths of the earth. Follow the linear path north until you find a passage to the east to hear two soldiers complaining about the perversion of their roles. Despite this guard’s misgivings, there’s no room for sentimentality here, or mercy. Sneak into the room they occupy - three guards in total - and kill them. Search some spilled grain to the south, then read two letters on two desks to the north, one of which will expose the Butcher’s location as the villa nearby.
Vault of Splendors¶
Sneak down the tunnel to the east to find a ladder leading up to the villa. When you surface, immediately kill two brutes standing nearby, then loot two treasures chests to complete this area’s location objective.

Once that’s done, leave the building you’re in and climb two ladders to the north, at the top of which you’ll find yourself confronted by the Butcher. He doesn’t bear the title gracefully, and he does try to paly the “just following orders” game, but Bayek over-reacts and picks a fight, and to the Butcher’s (level 25) credit, he deigns to defend himself… albeit with the help of two guards (level 25). It’s a confined space, and their all bear small shields, but they shouldn’t be too much trouble in a straight fight. Kill them, then confirm the Butcher’s dead to end the quest.
