Assassin's Creed: Origins

Rites of Anubis

By
Nathan Garvin

Suggested Level: 23

Anger of Anubis

To start this quest, you’ll need to head west of the Tomb of Sneferu to find the village of Nitria, named after its primary export. Search northeast of the town’s fast travel point to find a woman named Nefertari. Talk to her and Bayek will have a rude surprise from the wife of a man he had… past business with. Afterwards, follow Nefertari through the town as she checks on her ailing fellow villagers and admonishes Bayek for his past misdeeds. Seems that following your departure, Anubis has become displease. What else could put out fires and cause contagion, after all? Since you’re being fingered as the cause, you’ve no choice but to set things right by relighting three torches.

Once she assigns you this task, deploy Senu and mark the locations of these torches to the north, south and east. The northern one is the nearest, although it’s not really close to anything of interest, while the southern one is by a Hyena Lair point of interest, and the eastern one, of course, is near the Bent Pyramid of Sneferu.

Northern Torch

Head north first, climb some cliffs and find the platform the torch is on to find out… this might be a little more complicated than it orginally seemed. The torch has been knocked over and the head is missing, so use your Animus Pulse to tag some things that need to be investigated. First examine the blood nearby to note some signs of struggle, including a broken fence and note that the other tagged objects are in the pit below, to the northeast.

Drop down the cliff face and examine more blood on some rocks, then dive into the water and investigate a body floating around. Once done, dive underwater and grab the Broken Ceremonial Lamp Piece from the floor of the pool. Climb back up to the platform the torch is on, repair it, then light it with your torch. As Bayek assembles the torch, he’ll find another item of interest, a Charm of Anubis .

Hyena Lair

Return to Nitria and from the fast travel point there head south and slightly west to find the site of the second torch, which happens to be near a Hyena Lair. Is it really a sign of divine wrath when your torch-lighters go missing if you put the torch right next to a Hyena Lair? Really?

Anyway, you know what to do. There are numerous hyenas both inside the lair - rocky ring with many entrances - and outside, although if you want to make this fool-proof, you can circle around to the southern end of the lair to find some tall rocks you can safely perch upon and shoot down at the hyenas below. Kill the target hyena to complete this area’s location objective.

Reward: For completing the Hyena Lair
300 XP

Southern Torch

When all the flea-bitten mongrels are dead, enter their lair and search to the southeast to find a small cave, wherein you’ll find a red chest. Just a bonus, loot it, then head southwest under a clothes line full of bloody clothes to reach the next torch. You’ll find another charm of Anubis on the ground here, but you can’t take it with you, merely examine it. You can also examine a pig carcass nearby, between the cave that held the red chest and the depressiong where you’ll find this torch, which suggests that the hyenas were lured here, and these torches are a matter of sabotage, not divine anger. Anyway, when you’re ready, pull out your torch, light the… other torch, then be on your way.

Eastern Torch

If you completed the previous quest “ First Blood “, the Bent Pyramid of Sneferu shouldn’t be a great mystery. Just head east from the Hyena Lair (or southeast from Nitria, if you prefer), picking your way over the rough, often rocky desert until you find the misaligned pyramid. Enter the elevated opening on the western end of the pyramid and return to the chamber near where Bayek killed Rudjek… a curious place for the torch to be placed, but… whatever. Light it anyways.

Assuming you lit all three torches, return to Nitria, namely the shrine of Anubis on high ground overlooking the city. When you approach Nefertari, she’ll start up a conversation automatically, telling you precious little about what may have been happening with the anubis torches, instead pushing another task onto you. Some rebels need aid, but she’s too busy here. Another healer, Suphia, is willing to go to their aid, but she needs an escort… one of Bayek’s primary odd jobs, it seems. This ends the quest “ Rites of Anubis “ and begins “ When Night Falls “.
