There are two major hub areas early in the game - Wyndham Village and the sewers nearby. The latter is safer and probably the preferred route of travel, but the sewers have an allure of their own in the form of scandalously locked doors and dreams of the treasure that may lie beyond. This page will provide a guide for the sewers that run under Slatten Dale, Wyndham Village and Casterfell Woods in Atomfall, including details about whether Molly’s key is worth trading for and how to get into the control room and maintenance room.

Molly’s Key and Sewer Entrances¶
While it doesn’t have a map of its own, there’s a fairly extensive sewer system that connects Slatten Dale, Wyndham Village and Casterfell Woods, and depending on the route you take through Slatten Dale you may encounter the entrance to the Sewer Tunnels before you find the gates to Wyndham Village! Both are daily close to each other along the northeastern edge of Slatten Dale, but initially there’s no real incentive to brave the sewers over seeking the relative safety of Wyndham Village.
You’ll also meet the NPC trader Molly in Slatten Dale, and if she’s not the first NPC you meet after leaving the Bunker, she may well be the second, as another contender, Nat Buckshaw, mostly exists to point you in Molly’s direction. She talks about the bunkers buried throughout the region and even sells a Concrete Shelter Key, which may prove tempting to new players. You can find this bunker southwest of the Trader Camp where Molly resides, and if you’re not enticed enough, she even left the note Yours for a Fair Price! outside the bunker door, offering to trade the key if you’re interested in exploring said bunker.

You can trade for Molly’s Concrete Shelter Key, (left), but all this does is open up an alternative route into the Sewer Tunnels - not worth the resources you’d trade. (right)
Is it worth trading for Molly’s Concrete Shelter Key? In a word: no. This “bunker” is an alternative entrance to the sewers, taking you to the area outside of the control room, which you can reach just as well by entering the sewers via any other route. Other than avoiding the easily evaded leeches dwelling in the other entrance in Slatten Dale (east of the Trader Camp), there’s no good reason to bother with this entrance and hence with Molly’s key.
Reaching the Control Room¶
One way or another, you’re likely to get incentive to explore the sewers, whether you follow a lead there (like the Orders from Agravaine) or you just let curiosity get the best of you. You can find exits leading to Wyndham Village or Casterfell Woods, if you can brave the rat swarms and Outlaws (the latter of which may be replaced by Druids on subsequent visits), but two doors may draw more attention due to their inaccessibility - the control room and maintenance room are both locked, and who knows what sort of treasure hides behind locked doors?
To get into the maintenance room you’ll first need to get into the control room, and you can’t actually access the control room from within the Sewer Tunnels. Instead, you need to exit out to the Casterfell Woods. Once there, check the map and you’ll spot an elevated highway running north-south through the center of the region. You need to follow this highway and look for a way to get on it. If you entered Casterfell Woods via the Sewer Tunnels, you may want to just follow the stream north until you find a red telephone booth, then follow a trail nearby north and northeast until it switchbacks uphill before joining the highway.
(1 of 3) Follow the elevated highway that bisects Casterfell Woods to its southern end,
Follow this highway south until it terminates at a collapsed tunnel, at which point look left of the road (southeast) to find some stairs leading up to a doorway. Take this doorway and you’ll find yourself in the Sewer Tunnels. Entering the Sewer Tunnels via the highway along the south-center of the Casterfell Woods will put you behind the locked control room door. From where you enter, head south, then east down some stairs, then turn south up another flight of stairs to find yourself on the business end of the control room. Search the southern end of the control room to find a body containing the note Keep the Interchange Dry and the Sewer Tunnel Key. The former is just lore while the latter is what we need to enter the maintenance room.
Unlocking the Maintenance Room Door¶
Now that you have the Sewer Tunnel Key, you can open the maintenance room door, and while the control room had a bit of loot in it, the maintenance room is where the real treasure lies. Open the control room door to the east, then continue east on the catwalk and descend a ladder to return to the restricted (trespassing) chamber in the lower level of the sewers. From here, head west and follow the maintenance signs west and south down some stairs to find the locked maintenance room door.
(1 of 3) Follow the signs to the maintenance room door and open it with the Sewer Tunnel Key you found in the control room,
Open it with the Sewer Tunnel Key and head to the southwestern corner of the room to find some crates and shelves you can squeeze between. Do so and to the south you’ll find a B.A.R.D. Crate that contains a Training Stimulant among other goodies. Another skill point can’t hurt your odds, even if getting this one did require a bit of running about!
