Upgrading weapons in Atomfall will help you make short work of tough enemies like Protocol soldiers and Thralls. It works a little differently from most games and requires a fair bit of planning. Here’s how you can upgrade weapons in Atomfall with the right skills and resources.

Acquiring the Gunsmith skill¶
You can upgrade weapons anywhere in Atomworld once you’ve unlocked the Gunsmith skill. While it is initially unavailable in the skills menu, you can obtain it from Morris Wick in the
Wyndham Village Shop (Map Marker) next to the Bakery. Do so by accusing him of the murder at the church and selecting the “Bargaining” option.
If he is no longer here as a result of your actions, you can also get this item in the Data Store D Store Room within the Interchange. This room is right under where you insert an Atomic Battery to power up Data Store Delta. Remember to grab the
Data Store D Store Room Key from the guard in the same room.

Upgrading weapons¶
Now that you can unlock Gunsmith, do so by consuming seven Training Stimulants. This unlocks the option to upgrade weapons in your Crafting tab. Upgrades cost two of the same weapon,
Gun Oil, and
Scrap parts. Weapons are available in three tiers, starting from Rusty and progressing into Stock and Pristine rarity. Slatten Dale Outlaws tend to have Rusty gear while Protocol soldiers will target you with Stock weapons in Skethermoor. Since inventory management is crucial in Atomfall, you’ll have to plan your inventory carefully to hold two weapons of the same kind.
Use two Rusty weapons to form a Stock one and then pair two Stock ones together to obtain a Pristine gun with better stats. Doing so will earn you the Make do and mend achievement/trophy. That covers how you can upgrade weapons to be more effective in Atomfall.
