There are multiple ways you can progress through Atomfall, some may require you to cozy up to certain people, others may need you to apply your stealth skills to sneak into an area without being spotted, all equally valid. The Crane Control Key can be a difficult one to get hold of, and by the time you get it, its use may be limited based on your chosen route. Still, if you’re looking to get into Skethermoor Prison without alerting the whole base, keep reading to learn where to get this Key.

The Crane Control Key can be used to open an alternate path to Skethermoor Prison in Atomfall.

Where to Find the Crane Control Room Keycard

You may stumble across the Crane Control room when you access the Interchange for the first time, especially if you enter it from the Slatten Dale entrance (Map Marker). If you choose to explore Data Store Delta, then you’ll reach the Crane Control door in a corridor just south of the Data Store here. Getting this key, at this stage of the game, is going to require a lot of work, as not only do you need the key, but you’re going to need to get your hands on the Signal Redirector to active it once you do get inside.

A word of warning before you set off, however, as you need to determine if you truly need to get into the Crane Control room. The main purpose for this is to get you into Skethermoor Prison without alerting the entire base, where you’ll find Dr. Garrows (if you’re pursuing that Lead). One copy of the "Signal Redirector" iconSignal Redirector is found in that very prison, so if you already went through all of the trouble to do so, then this is a pointless endeavor. If Simms is aggressive on your playthrough, though, then this is the best way of getting in and out of the prison.

(1 of 3) Go to Data Store Bravo via the Skethermoor Interchange entrance.

Now, with that said, you’re going to need to get into the Interchange via the Skethermoor region, this can be found in the Protocol Camp to the south/center of the area (Map Marker). Once inside, head right at the entrance and make your way to the Interchange by opening the large doors using your "Modified Keycard" iconModified Keycard. If this is your first time heading to Data Store Bravo, then the Quarantine Doors on your left will be closed still, this is where you need to get to.

Start by crawling under the only other shutter and then following the path around to Data Store Bravo (the door on your right), go inside, and use one of your Atomic Batteries to provide power to the sector. Now that you have power, open the other door on this floor and then go down the stairs to your right, and then, at the bottom, go to your left to find a garage on your left. Inside you’ll find a body and, when examined, the "Crane Control Room Keycard" iconCrane Control Room Keycard!

Using the Crane Control Room Keycard

Now that you have the Crane "Control Room Keycard" iconControl Room Keycard in your hands, what can you do with it? Well, to begin with, make sure you have the Signal Redirector and then head back to Date Store Delta. If you’re going directly from where you are now, you can sneak (to avoid the Robots, or just make a run for it) to the opposite side, up the stairs on your left to the very top to find an entrance to the Crane Control Room with your new key.

(1 of 4) The Crane Control Room can be found just south of Data Store Room Delta.

Once inside, you’ll find a lever, but with seemingly no power to it, enter the Signal Redirector! If you look on the western wall, you can use the Redirector on the junction box to change the flow of power. Now, while still facing the western wall, look up at the ceiling to find the next junction box, then look at the ceiling above the lever itself to find the final junction box. You can now use the lever to move the massive cargo container blocking the entrance to Skethermoor Prison, perfect for if you want to make a daring rescue of Dr. Garrows.
