Fire Emblem Engage

Fire Emblem Engage Difficulty Options Explained

By
Jacob Woodward

Fire Emblem Engage is an interesting entry into the franchise as it looks to cut out some features that, for example, Three Hopes introduced, and streamline the experience to focus on battling. This, therefore, will certainly entice new players to the series and maybe cater to those that prefer to get stuck in rather than romancing characters.

Regardless, both new and returning players will likely want to know what difficulty options are available to them to either set themselves up for a breezy playthrough, or to crank the challenge up to the max.

What Are The Fire Emblem Engage Difficulty Options?

In Fire Emblem Engage, there are three core difficulty options: Normal, Hard, and Maddening.

Looking at the Normal difficulty option more closely, as you’d expect, this is the mode that beginners will likely be choosing. Hard and Maddening are for more skilled players, and probably reserved for those who have played a bunch of Fire Emblem before.

Once you have selected one of these difficulties, you’ll then be presented with a second set of ‘difficulties’ called modes in the form of Casual or Classic. The difference between these is found on the battlefield as they directly affect your units. Selecting Casual will allow your units to respawn for the next battle, whereas Classic poses a much harder challenge in which your fallen comrades will be lost forever.

How To Change Difficulty In Fire Emblem Engage

Each of the difficulty options can be selected at the start of the game and luckily, if you’re having a bit of trouble with the one you have chosen, you’ll be happy to hear that this can be altered.

Once you reach the end of Chapter 3, unlocking the Somniel, you have the chance to scale the difficulty down. However, if you do choose to do this, you will not be able to increase the difficulty after.

To change the difficulty, enter your room and go to the bed. Hit the prompt and within the menu, you will be able to change the difficulty setting.

As previously stated, the difficulty option can be made easier but naturally, if you’re already on the Normal setting, you will receive a prompt stating that the difficulty cannot be changed.
